Photographer's Note

This photo may not strike you with a typical postcard composition but I was really tempted to use my favourite “Postcard from…” title here. Even though searching under Thirsk you may find on TrekEarth a number of photos, there are so far no photos from this town itself. I think many British people at least heard about this town because it is in the North East of England frequently signposted as a direction. If you pass the motorway near it, a brown sign will also indicate that Thirsk is a worth visiting “historical market town”. Indeed last Saturday I have visited this lovely town hoping to take a photo of its photogenic clock tower. Unfortunately, all the time I was there the clock tower was being wrapped around with a beautiful hand made poppy decoration. It took a while so instead of photographing the market itself, I walked to the beautiful St. Mary Church dating back to 15th century (in this photo).

A great photo. Well done point of view and image composition. I like very much the brick stone colors. I also like the line of grave markers well aged by time. The clock looks too new for the building. Thanks

Hello Mariusz,
A fantastic photo of this typically English church with an old and weather-beaten gravestone in front of it. Very good light, clarity and fine, natural colours. Really well done and composed.

Hello Mariusz,
I find it striking that in English cemetaries so many tombstones are skewed. You could not take such a photo in Belgium :) You might not be able to find such an old tombstone here either.
Of course they lend themselves well to successful compositions.
I admit I've never heard of Thirsk. The name doesn't really sound English, I think.
Northern England seems to be an inexhaustible source for visiting and photographing beautiful churches, cemeteries, ruins of abbeys, ...
I like this picture very much, attractive colours, perfect sharpness, good depth.
Best regards, Paul

Swietna kompozycja z imponujaca wieza w tle. Pierwszy plan ladnie wypelniaja glowice nagrobkow sprzed wielu lat. Widze, ze "angielska" pogoda jest laskawa w tym roku i dzieki temu mamy atrakcyjna kolorystyke.
Ciekawa prezentacja
pozdrawiam

Hello Mariusz,
My first thought was not the beauty of the church, though it is a splendid building, but rather, how well you have used the gravestone. It makes a strong f/g feature, creating an excellent sense of depth, and it is impossible to pass it without studying its decorations and writing. Then, of course, there is still the church to investigate!
My warm regards,
Bev 😊

Hi Mariusz. You been unlucky with the clock tower, but you have remade yourself with this beautiful prospect which is a great leap into the past of this village until now unknown to the members of TE. The church is perfectly preserved and the perspective is very original and of excellent quality as always.Have a good night and thanks,Luciano

Hello Mariusz,
I am hoping the UK will vote to stay in the EU. The line of tombstones leads directly to the old clocktower and a former church. Good sharpness and a nice blue sky. Tfs!

Bonjour Mariusz,
C'est tout simplement la carte postale parfaite. Très beau choix de profondeur de champs qui permet de pouvoir lire la pierre tombale et d'avoir le clocher bien net.
Amicalement

it looks as the old clock still working, Mariusz, or maybe the strong light confused me...
Nice side POV with the added stone up front.
Good evening, many thanks for your critique today, appreciated the supportive note.

Mariusz, excellent contribution to Te given that any photos of that town has never been posted on the forum so far. The low pov is a good idea to capture at the same time the old stonework with its clock tower and the gravestones. A cemetery is found next to that ancient church. Fine colors, good image quality, interesting photo note, regards.
