Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
We were so excited to be visiting friends on the North Yorkshire coast and to have the opportunity to photograph some of the amazing features and scenery around their home area.
Sadly, the weather was not so excited and, for the most part, refused to put in a glimmer of sunshine.
Still, we were not disheartened and determined to photograph the features no matter what the light was like!
This is the well known pier at Saltburn. It is usually photographed from the other end, looking out to sea, but I rather liked the long view into the land, with a view of the water lift going up the steep cliff, from the beach to the town.
The pier was opened in 1869 and at that time, work was begun on the lift to ease access to the pier.
I love these bits of Victorian architecture and mechanics, still serving their purpose after so many years!
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hi Bev, Haha, I was in Saltburn too, on the meeting with Mariusz Kamionka and Kath and Rob Featherstone. But it was just after the hurricane in December last year and the pier was closed :(.
Excellent symmetric composition with great depth.

Hello Bev,
A very successful capture despite the unsympathetic weather. I like very much the lovely long perspective along the pier and the repeating motifs of the boards, which do much to create a feeling of depth. A great idea to face the other way and provide us with an interesting view of the town perched on top of the cliff. Excellent technical realisation. Precise symmetrical composition. Have a pleasant afternoon.

Hello Bev,
You choose the most old classic angle but the most beautiful.
This creates depth and perspective, the the distance of the pier leads us perfect to the houses in background.
You choose a good angle gives a beautiful image of the area.
Composition and presentation are pleasant to look at
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,
John.

Bonjour Beverley
Une bonne profondeur d'image, une digue qui doit être un but de promenade lorsque le soleil est présent.
Amitiés et bonne journée.

Hi Beverly,
The long wooden pier provide excelent depth to the whole sceen, and prolonged by what seems as a funicolar on the slope ahead.
The houses atop the hill must have a fabulus 270 degrees view, I reckon.
Fien shot, inspite a cloudy sky, and probably windy.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Bonjour Beverly,
J'aime le point de vue très bas, presque au niveau des planches de la jetée. Cela donne une profondeur étonnante à l'image. Le cadrage vertical accentue cette impression. Le ciel gris offre un très beau contraste.
Amicalement

Hello Bev,
I don't have a reverse angle photo to compare this with, but I imagine this view towards the hill and the buildings would be a lot more interesting than the empty sea. The colours and light don't suffer from the lack of sunshine and the clouds actually look quite nice. The compliments for good depth are valid for this photo too.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Bev,
we can only accept the weather, whether we like it or not. On the other hand it gives a good opportunity to test the creativity from the photographer. I think you made a good decision here when you chosed to take this photo with the town in the background. Incredible depth and excellent sharpness, i like this shot! A person walking on the pier close to you would have been even better, but that is my personal choice. Still an attractive shot despite overcast wheather. Well done!
Best regards/

Ciao Bev
che prospettiva lunghissima, accompagna lo sguardo fino alle abitazioni sulla collina.
Il cielo è grigio, ma rispetta l'atmosfera del periodo.
Saluti

Hello Bev,
I remember well your photo from the top of the hill, the reverse view. The depth-of field is first rate, despite the subdued light. The one-point symmetry (where parallel lines converge at a single point on the horizon line) works so well in this instance. I wonder if they used the weather resistant Trex (the synthetic wood substitute, devoid of knots) in building this boardwalk.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hi Bev,
Oh, so true! About the best you can do if you have the luxury of time (most people don't) is to wait for the weather to improve. This can take up to 4 weeks as I discovered in Piatra Neamt! Good sharpness with superb lead in lines and diminishing linear perspective offered by the dual sides of the wooden pier. Tfs!

Hello Beverley,
I don't know if you took this picture at the end of the pier but this image certainly has a fantastic perspective.
Very nice with the houses on top of the steep hill.
I understand you didn't enjoy that weather much but you still managed to present a very beautiful and not a gloomy view.
Best regards, Paul
