Fountains Abbey, a photo from North Yorkshire, England

Photographer's Note

I am sorry to disappoint all of you who have expected to see a fountain in the middle of an abbey. I did not find anything about the origin of this abbey’s name but I guess Fountain may be just a surname of the founder. I had a pleasure to walk among these ruins yesterday. It is a wonderful place and I definitely want to go back there again.

Fountains Abbey was founded in 1132, operated for over 400 years, until 1539, when Henry VIII ordered the Dissolution of the Monasteries. It is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

piekne ruiny i bardzo malownicza sceneria wokol.Faktycznie-swiatlo jest znakomite i wplywa pozytywnie na odbior zdjecia.Do tego znakomita jakosc zdjecia i bardzo ciekawy efekt graficzny.Wyglada jak HDR.Super kompozycja!

You have captured a splendid and magical moment here, the colours are vivid and wonderful, and the ruin itself is spectacular! These are my favourite types of place, and I would spend hours wandering through these ruins. I have heard of Fountains Abbey before, but never seen an image of it as beautiful as this. POV is perfect, and een the sky wants to help by creating such an excellent backdrop.

The map says this place is adjacent to Robin-Hood's Woods, that's some piece of history around...
Fabulous composition, the place is outstanding in numeros of old ruins to look at.

What a great pov to show off this wonderful abbey and its setting beside the river and amongst the trees. Plenty of sunlight to ensure that all parts of the abbey can be seen clearly. Must visit this place the next time I am in North Yorkshire.

Hello Mariusz,

This is a speactacularly beautiful photograph of this well known abbey. I have seen many pictures of it before but I don't believe I have ever seen such a fine one, particularly of the whole series of buildings.

You have taken this picture in the most delicious light - presumably in late afternoon/early evening as you are looking north (according to your map) and the sun is coming from the left. But you have coped with the resultant strong contrasts exceedingly well too as there is full detail visible in the darkest shadows and also in the brightest parts.

Excellent composition, lovely colours, perfect exposure and stunning details and sharpness.

What a superb abbey and real tranquil setting. Nicely composed and blessed with lovely light & rich blue sky, This is a fine image framed nicely by the tree. I love how the low sun was hitting the prominent structures and giving it this nice warm tone and popped out against blue sky. Crispy in focus with lovely clean lines and details and I like the patches of greens lawn and the low cotton cloud is a real plus point. You have done great job capturing the grandeur of this historic spot. Just fascinating.

Well done for this nice point of view on the ruins.
But the right part of the sky is a little bit over exposed, that's normal because the camera sensor was settled on the shades in the middle.

you have filled the frame beautifully with this image. the light and colours are very appealing. i love how the light has illuminated the abbey walls, and highlighted the detail in the stone. the clouds and sky are terrific, especially how the lead into the picture from the corner towards the tower.

This is quite an unusual view I must say. You did find a vatage POV & created a fine picture. Framing is done well with the trees. The sky colour looks a bit funny especially on the right. But otherwise the quality is as always excellent toppoing the fine composition!

ho scoperto questa tua foto che ha il pregio di un giusto equilibrio tra la composizione perfetta nella disposizione dei suoi elementi e il il colore.
Questi danno una forte impronta che si pregia dell'incontro tra l'azzurro del cielo, il verde del prato ed il colore piщ sfumato dell'edificio, il tutto con una nitidezza di tutto rispoetto ed un contrasto e una saturazione nella giusta misura.
Il ruscello che, mutamdo colore, avvolge i ruteri и la degna cornice a questo quadretto di rovine, ma anche di grande bellezza architettonica e naturale

So it will always remain a mystery why this abbey got that name.
No problem, these ruins look incredible.
You have looked for a suitable spot to present us the whole.
Beautiful with the river in the foreground separating us from the abbey.
Excellent composition, nice alternation of parts in the sunlight and others in the shade, very colourful, good sharpness and framing.
