The pump's handle blends with the pump itself. if you had taken a more frontal view more detail would have shown, while the composition would stay practically the same.
Did you shoot this on auto-exposure ? If you can put your camera on aperture priority, try putting it on a lower F-number to reduce the DOF (to blur the background more)

A very pretty scene, Mark. Well seen. Walter makes a good point about angling the shot so there's some space between the handle and the body of the pump. As for dof, it could be a bit shallower, but I use a Canon Powershot S50 and I have a lot of trouble getting shallow dof.
