Photographer's Note
This boat, moored on the Leeds And Liverpool Canal at Skipton, displays a simplified, humorous version of the painted decoration which was part of the strong traditions on the 'narrowboats'. The boats transported goods along the inland waterways and were also homes to the families that crewed them. For my Greek and Turkish friends I would like to add that these are the boats most familiar to me when I am at home in the UK - but they are now used mainly for enjoyment.
I hope to post more examples of narrowboat decoration in future.

Hi Maggie,
It is very nice photo, good for the gloomy days we have now. I would say it is rather the golden frog. I like the green colour here.
The framing is perfect.

Hello Maggie,
I'm interested to see you are into canal shots as well.
This is a good one, and you have done well to crop it closely, but still to include some of the water and its reflections. It's often the detail that is most interesting with these narrowboats.
A clear sharp shot - the texture of the mooring rope is in good contrast to the hard metallic shapes of the rest of the image.
Its diagonal acts as a useful part of the composition.
Regards,
Peter.

Hi Maggie, A brilliantly composed photo, wonderfully clear, sharp & excellent colour, I love the way you have focused just on the front of the boat, it works superbly &, as of the little guy on top, he looks so proud he is getting his picture taken, TFS, kind regards Wilson.

Hi Maggie.
It would have been easy to have stepped back and taken a more panoramic view to this boat but I'm glad you didn't. You've spotted the essence of what you're trying to convey, composed it perfectly (the name is on a sweeping diagonal and the frog balances this to perfection) and then captured it expertly. One of the nicest and most competent photos of a narrowboat I've seen.
Best wishes for 2008,
Paul.
