Photographer's Note
Hello Everyone,
I hope you are still interested and enjoying these photographs from Giggleswick.
This photograph shows an unusual feature, that there is a small stream running right through the village, with a larger river (the Ribble) on its outskirts.
The villagers have to access their properties over bridges. There were several of these access bridges.
Another shot of the stream can be seen as a workshop.
With the recent storms that have been endured because of climate change, I wondered how the village would fare in such circumstances. By referring to local papers and news reports, this area of the Yorkshire Dales has suffered on a number of occasions from flooding. Rescue agencies have been had to be employed on occasions.
Thank you for your interest,
Bev :-)

Hello Bev
Well framed and composed with excellent sharpness. The picturesque canal adds good lead in lines. The old stone bridge provides a strong focal point. Tfs!

Hello Bev,
My first thought before reading the note was that these buildings might suffer from cold and damp basements. The reports of flooding would confirm that. In spite of such inconveniences the narrow river and bridges look quite nice and give an impression of a little Venice of the northwest.
Thanks for your kind comments on my Baghdad photo. We were not at all threatened by the soldiers. We had much more problems with taxi drivers asking for more money than we had agreed on. But generally Baghdad seemed quite safe in those days.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Bev,your photos from this village are always interesting, there is no doubt. Unique scenarios, it's like walking into the past, and even today you show us two beautiful views. These houses by the river are beautiful, and well preserved, and the WS showing the perfect wet environment for the life of certain species is also very useful. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Beverley,
The residents here seem to have their own private bridge to get to their home.
Living close to the water has its charm and seems romantic.
But a consequence of climate change is that local rainfall can be very heavy, causing flooding in areas where there were none before. We experienced that last summer in the south of Belgium with such destruction that many houses are still not restored.
Anyway, a very picturesque place presented in a clear and sharp photo.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Bec,
Living close to the water, I am wondering if it could be damp inside the house. The point of view is showing the details of the house. The light is making the colors to stand out. Have a nice day.

It seems a little bit on t he old farms with a bridge and a water around.
You chose a lovely angle with river, bridge and frontage of the houses.
Composition and presentation are nice but also qualitative nice.
Very well done, TFS.

hello Bev, Another interesting picture from the Giggleswick. Funny that everyone has their own bridge. From the side of the house, there are stone walls but anyway in case of a flood the water comes in. I like ivy on the walls.
Best regards Malgo

Hi Bev,
Today I had a chat with my work colleague and he told me his relative daughter attends a school in this town. I found it quite a coincidence because I have never heard about this place before but due to your reportage I memorized the unique name of this town.
Nice architecture. The riverside makes a nice touch in the foreground,

yes, the presence of the bridge in rustic style and the clear waters in front the window is ever a fabulous aspect, but for another it is a big risk. maybe the bed of the stream could be made deeper to prevent floods. this bridge made me remember the houses in london and edinburgh with a bridge to the main entrance and a hole bellow the bridge to illuminate the basement.
take care

Pozdrav.
Lep pogled, interesantan tekst ...
Lepo mesto i arhitektura, dobro pokazano sa lepim bojama, kontrastom, perspektivom i uhvacenim trenutkom sa oblacima koji dolaze i najavljuju porimenu vremena.
Dobar rad sa lepom fotgrafijom u radionici.
Lep kameni most i korovovi sa dimnjacima.
Zelim vam lepu i mirnu noc, sve najbolej za vikend.

Hello Beverly,
Living so close to water must feel like living on a boat. I am sorry to read about the increased danger of floods. I like the walls covered in green in the WS photo.
Regards,
MT
