Photographer's Note

This is the first of a mini series dedicated to the Spinnaker Tower, now the symbol of Portsmouth and one of the town's main attractions. The tower was completed last year. When it first opened to the public, the lift didn't work, but since that unfortunate start, it's been very popular with tourists and locals. It's 170 metres tall and on a clear day the view from up there is breathtaking. It's so big that it can be seen from virtually anywhere in town, so if you ever get lost, just llok for the giant spinnaker and you'll at least know where your cardinal points are. The name is obviously connected to its shape, which, in turn, is connected to the importance that the sea has always had for Portsmouth.
