Photographer's Note
This canal begins at Cromford by Arkwright's Cromford Mill which construction changed the face of textile manufacture. Too much foreground?

Hello Vic,
What a wonderful shot! I love the hazy look in the distance due to the morning light. I don't feel that there is too much foreground, I think it creates a lot more detph. Great POV with excellent lighting, beautiful balanced colors and details! Great work, Vic!

Hello Vic,
The early morning light casts a beautiful glow over the house and the f/g whilst the b/g still seems to have a slight haze! This is a very pleasing landscape!
I would have cropped some from the f/g; in that way the canal would have taken more prominance, as it is, it is hardly noticed!
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Vic,
Yes, I think it´s too much foreground, and I made a WS to illustrate my suggestion. But otherwise this is a very fine picture with very good colours and composition. I like the haze over the hills in the background.

The light really is gorgeous and demonstrates to us people who can't get out of bed on a morning just how cruicial early light can be to the beauty of an image. I would say definitely crop the foreground; not only is it featureless but it is in the shadows. I always have a desire that if I crop in one direction I am obliged to balance it by cropping the same amount in the other direction to retain the proportions. I realise there is no logical reason for that, but in this case the right side is not too interesting either with the sky starting to lead to oe, so that would work. I see Gunnar has done more or less that in his WS. Nevertheless the real star is the light, with a wonderful glow on the building and the autumnal tones of the tree. I also like the early morning haze in the background. All-in-all a good image.

Wonderful atmosphere, Vic. It put me in mind of the only bit I can remember of Milton's L'Allegro, so I went to Google and found this. Thanks!
Yes, I think the foreground detracts a little from the delight, but I would not take so much off as Gunnar has. I'll upload my offering.
Best wishes,
Winifred
