Photographer's Note

Another recent shot from Lugansk, a "West Virginia - like" area of eastern Ukraine, near the Russia border. The WV comparison refers to its mainstay - coal-mining. It's hard to tell at this point whether this boy will be a miner, like his father and father's father, but, since 11 of the area's 13 mines are now closed, resulting in 70% unemployment and masssive migration from the area, it's unlikely.

It's a little bit out of focus, but is a relly WONDERFUL image.

je suis surprise que cette photo n'aie pas plus de bonnes critiques. Pour moi elle est digne d'un portrait du National Geographic ! Le regard de cet enfant est tellement grave...Fйlicitations pour avoir captй ce moment.
