Photographer's Note
You still think our future is bright? Here are some facts:
Half the world — nearly three billion people — live on less than two dollars a day.
The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the 41 Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (567 million people) is less than the wealth of the world’s 7 richest people combined.
Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names.
Less than one per cent of what the world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and yet it didn’t happen.
1 billion children live in poverty (1 in 2 children in the world). 640 million live without adequate shelter, 400 million have no access to safe water, 270 million have no access to health services. 10.6 million died in 2003 before they reached the age of 5 (or roughly 29,000 children per day).
80% of the world's forests are gone. 2000 trees a minute are cut down in the Amazon alone. That is 7 football fields a minute! The US has less than 4% of its forests left.
40% of our waterways are undrinkable. 75% of global fisheries have been fished beyond capacity.
100,000 synthetic chemicals are used in production today. Bromated Flame Retardants (BFR) neurotoxins (toxins to brain) are in computers, mattresses and pillows.
Food with highest level of contaminants is mother's milk.
200,000 people a day are moving to cities from environments that no longer support them.
Average person consumes twice as much as 50 years ago.
99% of all those things we buy are not in use after 6 months.

Hi Fusun.
It's a horrible thing to contemplate but the reality is that if you can see your photo and read your note - the future probably is bright. As for those who can't......
Here we are in the 21st century and, despite the utter lack of any form of proof of existence of any 'higher being', 'god' call it what you will, the world is largely governed by and divided by religion.
When it isn't religion making mischief, the world's politicians do their damndest to protect their own (seldom their people's) interests. How much foreign aid is spent on feeding the poor compared to arming despotic regimes?
Anyway, enough of my rants. A very beautiful and thought provoling post - we just need a revolution to give the power back to the people!

Hello Fusun,
I wish I was there when you took this picture: I could probably spend a lot of time trying to discover more and more angles.
You achieved a wonderful composition. Let's hope that the futur is bright. It doesn't look so when you open the papers every day.
Warm regards - Izzet

These lights with their different orientations work very well against the black background and also give a dynamic impression, but what is it exactly ?
Have a nice day JY

Hello Fusun! Living in Zurich I have come by this "future" thing several times and it has been presented on TE before but I never saw it your way and it was a simple add for a telecom company (called Orange) and I guess they want to sell you that the future is really bright if spend your money with them :))) Interesting note, and I hope that Zurich did not bring you into this mood but that you also had the chance to see some brighter sides. The photo is really well presented and I like that you made the background really dark. I think it is actually brighter. Good work with a strong message inside your text. Barbara.

Ha, I know exactly where you took that shot. In the Zurich Airport. I passed this dysplay so often that I recognized you rshot instantenously even from the thumbanil. Nice light management and good exploitation in the color rendition.
