Carved in 1821 in a sandstone rock, this lion commemorates the combat of the Swiss guards charged to protect the royal residence from Louis XVI at the time of the French revolution, in Paris: some 850 mercenaries found death in the catch of Tileries, August 10, 1792, or were guillotins September the 2 and 3 (source: Guide Vert Michelin)
