Photographer's Note
Classic view from Gornergrat towards Matterhorn. Gornergratbahn is the first electric mountain rack railway in the world. It was opened in 1898 and lengthtened to a upper terminus in 1909. It has rail gauge of 1 meter and uses Abt rack system. At 3089 m Gornergrat is the highest open air railway station in Europe.
I'm actually surprised that this seems to be the first shot of Gornergrat station here in TE. Little has changed on this view during recent decades. Design of the class Bhe2/4 railcars in the picture dates from 1947 although latest ones were delivered in 1961. So, again I couldn't resist submitting a sepia version. Colour one in the WS.

It actually looks like an old photograph. The rail cars look old too. In 1985 I took this train to Gornegrat and from here I walked down to Zermatt. Thanks for showing this photo - it brought back some memories. Latiff

Hello Kari,
J'aime beaucoup le traitement que tu as réalisé sur ta photographie ! Les teintes nous renvoient quelques années dans le passé ! La cadrage est superbe sur cette gare d'altitude !
Bravo !

Love the color version Kari! It has a toning that really reminds me a past time. Strangely, the sepia version reminds me two centuries ago while the color one fits correctly the mid XX century. The pov is amazing and the composition too. If only that sky was a bit more darker it would be a perfect scene. Like it a lot!

Hi Kari.
My compliments. The view is impressive and the contrasts good as well.
It's a nice compo with the electric mountain rack railway as an introduction.

Hi Kari,
Beautiful view towards the Matterhorn. I like and understand your choice for sephia here but the original color one looks quite old as well.
The good compo and POV here definately work in favor of the old style look. Well done.

Hi Kari,
I love what you've done to this photo. It really does look as if it had been taken a very long time ago. The color version is good too (good scan), but I think I prefer this sepia version.
Have a nice week-end.

Excellent job! The sepia really does it. The color version is not bad either, but the sepia wins it.

Sepia is the right choice for this, Kari -- only a careful look at the clothing of your subjects reveals that it is indeed a modern photo.
Superb composition and excellent notes

Terve Kari,
A jewel this one, first a killer PoV to use the station as a first class foreground to the Matterhound, and then a lovely sepia to turn it into a wonderful old postcard as I like. Learn Japanese, print this photo and open a postcard selling booth outside the station, business guaranteed ;-)
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Hi Kari,
very good idea to change the photograph into a sepia version.I like also your frame which creates the impression of a very old picture.
I now the Gornergratbahn and the Matterhorn.I was there a few years ago and from the station you have really a fantastic panorama of the Alps.
With regards
Jean-Claude

Hi Kari - the B&W has taken 100 years off the age of the photo, honestly I can't identify anything that would give the date away (OK maybe the glaciers were bigger in 1898).
