Photographer's Note
Rigi near Lake Lucerne (Vierwaldstätter See) was the first european summit to be equipped with a mountain railway. Born 1871 and still riding strong, the mountain today shows a number of nine cogwheel railways.
Rigi Staffel station 1603 m is shown in the middle, with the left track leading down to Vitznau on the lake's shores via Rigi Kaltbad-First, while the right one will bring you via Rigi Klösterli to Arth-Goldau, an important station of the Gotthard line.
Rigi Staffel seems to serve as an event location. You still have to ride 145 m upwards to Rigi Kulm station at 1748 m, just 50 ms below the summit.
Several visitors have claimed a strong simliarity to a model railway - which I can understand.
The mountain is shared by the cantons of Lucerne and Schwyz - with the latter housing the summit and telecommunications mast.
