My last photo was taken on Midsummer's Eve, last Friday, and so are those I show today. But these pictures were taken several hours earlier, in a different part of the city.

Midsummer is one of the most popular holidays of the year to most Swedes, and lots of people leave the cities to celebrate it in the countryside. Road traffic is intense and from various quays in Stockholm people leave by boat.

This long line of people are waiting to go somewhere on board the S/S Storskдr, built in 1908 and still going strong. She has been used for regular traffic in the Stockholm archipelago since 1939 and is a listed cultural heritage.

The Stockholm archipelago covers an area of about 1.700 square km containing about 24.000 islands and islets. About 10.000 people live here permanently.

Across the water to the right is Gamla stan (Old Town) and in the distance to the left is Sцdermalm island, where I live. On the hill is Katarina church, located in an area where many of my TE photos were taken.

The presence of the crowd is animating the scene. The point of view is showing the dtails of the boat and of the buildings in the background. The light is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

That must be a popular destination on sunny summer days, let alone Midsummer's Eve. The long queue describes the event well. I just wish to see the old ship in complete.

24,000 islands looks an amazing number, probably the old invaders would have problems to choose what would be the way to reach the island where the capital was.

Hello Gert,
I too took a day trip to the archipelago (to the island of Sandhamn). It was a very nice boat trip.
Still, I don't think the boat left at this place, but I could be wrong.
On that day off for many and very popular day for most, it can get very busy on the boat.
In good weather it is really wonderful to sail around for a while on the many sea coves and between the islands.
It's great that the many residents of Stockholm have beautiful nature so close by.

Hello Gert, Nice three photos with the boats of Stockholm. In winter, I saw the boasts but there were no cruises. I suppose you didn't go by boat anywhere. I remember well the views of the Katarina church and my favorite St. Jacob.

A good view of the daily life of your people. I love the holidays and so much. I wanted to be there. The sharpness and exposure are very good. Yesterday, a relative of mine who lives in Sweden shared a photo of his pastime on a similar place on Instagram.

A great looking old ferry. They've been getting rid of the old ones in Sydney and replacing them with unreliable new ones.
A good summer photo with people mostly wearing shorts etc. Well composed with the human leading line. Good complementary WS photos.

Hello Gert, your note explains precisely why there is a long queue waiting to get on the boat. I am not surprised that the population want to make the most of the long daylight hours. And what a beautiful day it looked for this special holiday.
Three excellent sharp and interesting pictures.
I suppose living on and amongst so many islands people are used to travelling by boat?

Splendid composition with the view of the ferry and the line of people to board, a beautiful day to sail, I love the photos of the WS and especially the vertical with the view of the ferry from the front, it is beautiful and I think it would have been very good as a photo major.
Very effective color, which highlights the details of the image.
