Photographer's Note

This is a small shipyard located at Lеngholmen (Long Islet), off the western tip of Sцdermalm island. It was started in the 1680's, but for the last more than 100 years only repairs and maintenance has been done here.

The boats seen here are probably all used for sightseeing tours on lake Mдlaren and brought here for off-season maintenance.

I took this photo while walking along the northern shore of Sцdermalm a month ago. I liked the view of the black and white boats and the red buoys and the opportunity to use the lifebuoy in the foreground.

In the background is a glimpse of the district of Kungsholmen (King's Islet).

A small marina with long history, Gert.
Despite the low light condition, managed good view across the water towards the different vessels.

Hello Gert, the red of the life belt in the foreground is echoed in the distance by the buoys that the boats are tied to.
I like your idea for this composition with the life belt drawing our eyes into the scene.

Hello Gert, This time you changed the direction of your walk from east to west. According to the map, we didn't go as far west. Nice view of all these boats. The white and red lifebuoy si eyecatching.

The red-white lifebuoy creates an interesting foreground and gives a lot of depth to the photo.
The waves make me think there was quite a bit of wind. But that may be mostly the case on these waters between Lake Mдlaren and the sea.
In the background, the tall buildings of Kungsholmen still catch the sunlight.

a nice view using the closer element in FG and the boats at distance. in this last trip I got some boats photos too, anyway, not so much places in ocean.

Hello Gert,
A fine photo, but I am not too sure about the inclusion of the lifebuoy. Granted, it adds much needed red in the frame but it also obstructs the view of the shipyard.

This one really needs to be viewed in the large version where the detail of all the boats is ultra clear. Well composed with the life buoy filling in some of the foreground.

Splendid composition, with this series of boats moored at the dock of that shipyard, the effect of black and white in the dominant of them is very beautiful, the life preserver is a nice touch of color and increases the sense of perspective to the whole.
Very pleasant coloring, which together with the good sharpness and optimal lighting, gives great quality to the image.

I like the way the lifebuoy dominates the image, both for its eye-catching shape and the colour (landscape photography version of lady in red). Also, it really fits the theme of a shipyard.
