Photographer's Note
Searching my archive of relatively recent photos from Stockholm I found this one from the autumn of 2018 and decided it could be shown here. It's a very simple view, but I like this short street and it's located in one of my favourite areas of Södermalm island, so I come this way quite often. It's about 10 minutes from where I live.
Basically this view has probably not changed much since the 18th century. Searching for more information about these buildings I found a photo from 1900 which I enclose as a WS. I recommend a view.
Yesterday I went back here to try to take a photo from approximately the same place as in 1900. It's also in the WS.
You can find this place for yourself by using the map coordinates 59.31787 18.07747.
And don't forget to take a look at the WS!

Hej Gert
Neighbors today in both countries and TE gallery! I like the contrast between the cobblestones in the street and the flagstones in the pavement. Good sharpness and charming old architecture. Tfs!

Hi Gert,
Nothing has changed also during the last five and half years:
https://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Europe/Sweden/Svealand/Sodermanland//photo1508494.htm
Only the weather is different, and the persons who went there :). My first photo after I returned from Stockholm.
Have a nice day

Hello Gert,
Ancient street cobblestones first caught my sight when opened this picture. Than, looking at the details, you show a fine picture of the place, contrasting colors and enliven by the youngsters stride by.
Attractive yellow colors, grey chineys and roof above, nicely mingling at the whole composition.
Have a nice sunday,
Ike

Hi Gert, the comparison between the two photos from different times in the WS is very interesting, in fact almost nothing has changed in the last century. Title fits perfectly and also the other two photos of this part are very beautiful, a walk among the old colored facades where time has really stopped. Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

Hi Gert,
The presence of the persons is animating the scene. The point of view is shwoing the details of the houses. The light is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Gert,
Indeed without the modern people could them think we are back in the past.
The cobblestone are perfect for Paris - Roubaix, but without welles
A lovely presentation, with soft colours and excellent sharp.
Very well done, TFS.

Hej Gert,
Yes, I can imagine that is one corner of Stockholm that has gone through least changes. Wonderful old town feeling, including those cobble stones. And sidelight looks just right.

Hello Gert,
I am not surprised by your enthusiasm for this street, it so full of character, with its thickly cobbled road and pavement, its colourful, tall buildings and eclectic roofing materials.
The figures add hugely to the atmosphere as they travel leisurely along, obviously unafraid of any traffic!
The light is glorious, giving pleasing contrasts of light and shadows and seeming to draw our attention to the steepness of the adjoining street!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Gert,
It's seems that that part of Stockholm is timeless. :-) There's so much charm at this spot, and I like how you put the old photo in the WS for comparison. It's a nice daily life scene. Take care!

gert
these old parts well preserved of the towns are like a magical gate to the past. my town is very young, but it lost most of its historical buildings and architecture, because it was made in timber and because nobody wants to preserve.
this black roof would be a oven in my town. haha.
take care

Hello Gert,
Everyone seems to agree that little has changed in this street compared to 121 years ago.
I have to admit that I actually don't understand this and think that a lot has changed. No houses were completely demolished to build something completely new. Instead the houses were restored.
But if you were to show the Wikipedia photo from 121 years ago (even with colours) as a current situation somewhere in Sweden, no one would believe it.
Restoration has been done while retaining the old typical charm and that has been very successful.
Good and interesting comparison and nice pictures of a kind of village in the middle of the capital.
Best regards, Paul

Hej Gert,
Et udmærket billede, jeg elsker jo billeder med gadelivet som dette her. De små lave huse foran de højere gør den vertikale komposition meget stærk. De gule og røde farver ser også virkelig fint ud i efterårslyset.

A good trio from near your neighbourhood. I particularly like the pair taken over 100 years apart.

Dear Gert,
It was nice to see that something simply don't change. Also, Malgo's WS provided a nice comparison. I have similar plans with either Miskolc or Nyíregyháza. Maybe I should do this project at least. :)
Best Wishes,
Gy.

an interesting little series with the WS's. A picturesque street with perhaps the main changes being the clothes of the people.

Hello Gert, I find it very interesting to see your local area, and this street has character.
The workshop pictures are very useful too.
The sunlight highlights the colours and features of the various buildings.
Interesting that the street is still cobbled, it provides a contrasting texture to the smoothness of the walls.
The people add good animation to the scene.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Gert, What an attractive street you have shown us in this image - cobbled paving and traditional forms. Inclusion of the walkers works well too. Cheers, Steve

Hallo Gert
I tip my hat to such a perfect photographic technical success: For instance an impression of softness is conveyed allover the picture by the correctly-exposed highlights, while the darkest zones benefit of a diffuse lighting coming from some buildings across the street for an easy outlook on the shaded side.
The ancestor photographers of the 18th century would also have enjoyed the distortion-free rendering related to vertical lines!

Hi Gert.
An excellent presentation with these old houses and very interesting the comparison with the photo of 1900, here they seemed older, so I think they have been restored and painted in color, with which the whole is more attractive.
Sharpness, lighting, color, and the magnificent composition; they are all perfectly realized factors, in this precious images.
Well done. I like very much.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hi Gert
It's a beautiful street with its colourful charming houses and you captured a perfect "nothing special" moment there with people walking along. But what I found fascinating is your WS with this same location photographed 121 years ago as well as your attempt to capture the same view now.
Great post!
Best wishes

Hello Gert,
Ah, yes, the street this one is leading to is more modern, at least it's cobblestone. In Turkish, we call these streets made out of irregular stones "Albanian Pavement." I don't know the English for it, because in the US, we don't have such streets.
Regards,
MT
PS. I just looked it up - apparently, it's all cobblestone in English. In Turkish, we have the distinction: this street is "arnavut kaldırımı" (Albanian pavement) and the one it's leading to, with the rectangular shaped stones, is "parke."
