Photographer's Note
The civic tower is a defensive complement, as well as a communications tower and the public clock, sign and emblem of municipal power. It stands in La Plaza Mayor or La Constitución, in the same location as the previous one.
The monument we are contemplating was built in the mid-16th century, with a height of 17.70 meters including the knobs located on the cornice of the parapet built as a top finish. It is a prismatic building of ashlars that inscribe a hexagon on an also irregular base, in which the stairs with three seats that give access to the door located to the northeast, devoid of any decorative element, were integrated.
The tower is made up of two bodies bounded by horizontal moldings that separate them, the highest coinciding with the base of the roof on whose angles the gargoyles were installed, in the shape of the head of a bulldog or mastiff; in which three small rectangular openings or embrasures open, one in the first and two in the second, in order to provide clarity to the granite spiral stairs, attached to the wall, that lead to the ajarafe.
In the second body, two shields with the arms of Betanzos were placed at the same level and on consecutive sides, facing north and east, and the municipal public clock between them, in the same orientation as the access door, and on the side From the northeast a door opens, provided with a metal railing and a bricked-up arch above it, which leads to the roof.
Once the tower was finished up to the roof, the municipality intended to install an iron frame for the clock, a project that would have to be delayed due to lack of budget for its execution. At the beginning of the 17th century, the construction of the «CHAPITEL» would be resumed, considered as the auction or crown that adorns, enhances and embellishes the tower.

Hello Luis,
We are seeing a very interesting building complex of several sections. Parts of it look like a Gothic church but the nearest tower is clearly something else, intended for defensive purposes as your note describes it. It's a rather massive tower with a fine clock and a coat of arms beside it and with an extraordinary "dome" of iron bars and bells. It is a most original construction that calls for attention. This angle was well chosen to show us this remarkable tower, but you also had a perfect light from this side.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Luis,
I like the tight composition you chose here to frame the clock tower and the one and a half arches you included at left. We get an excellent and sharp look at the old architecture and its shapes and textures. Very well done in a fine sunlight.

Hi Luis,it's a very unique and original architechture, very well preserved but the bells on the top seems an example of rust art and aren't in good health,a perfect capture very sharp as usual, another unkown jewel from your country! Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Lep pogled, interesantan i dobar tekst ...
Dobar rad, lepa fotografija.

Managed well to include the clock-tower from street level up, Luis.
The bells also an intriguing elements on this picture.
A fine outcome with the far side tower complement to the main object on the scene.
Buenas dias,

Hola Luis,
Quite an extraordinary clock tower, in particular the very top of it. It does made me think that they run out of budget because it is not nearly as impressive as the stone part of the structure.
Great presentation on a great weather day.
Excellent work,
M

hello Luis, another interesting building, I especially like the bells at the top of their tower; no walls to restrict the sound of their chime when they are rung!
Your notes are always very informative.
Kind regards, Jean
