Photographer's Note
Ávila is a Spanish fortified city located in the autonomous community of Castile and León, and is the capital of the Province of Ávila.
It is sometimes called the Town of Stones and Saints, and it claims that it is one of the towns with the highest number of Romanesque and Gothic churches per capita in Spain. It has complete and prominent medieval town walls, built in the Romanesque style. Writer José Martínez Ruiz, in his book El alma castellana (The Castilian Soul), described it as "perhaps the most 16th-century town in Spain". Ávila was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.
It ha a long and chequered history dating from the fifth century BC.

Hello Stephen,
Wonderful panoramic view of the walls of Avila. The picture seems a bit too dark, but never mind. The sky looks quite threatening. Avila is a fascinating town. I like it very much.
Have a nice day

Hello Stephen,
I have a photo taken from the same spot (give or take a few meters), and although the clouds were rather dark during my visit too, they were not quite as dramatic as these. (Maybe I didn't do enough PP?) Avila is a fascinating city and extremely picturesque, as this photo clearly shows. I do think this photo is a bit too dark though. You could have brightened it to make us see the details of the wall and the city more clearly, and the clouds would still have looked spectacular.
Regards,
Gert

Hello Stephen,
What an excellent panorama, capturing the entire walls of city!
It is amazing!
I cannot quite decide if you have purposely darkened the sky for added drama but, I like it, whatever!
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Stephen,
The stormy sky has a dramatic effect on the composition. The wideness of the city is creating depth. The point of view is showing the details of the towers and of the city walls. Well done, have a nice day.

Bonjour Stephen,
On ne voit pas grand chose de la ville d'Avila dans cette photo, mais cela n'est pas très grave car le ciel prenait toute la place et pour cause.
Amicalement

Hello Stephen
This beautiful panorama seems to have been painted earlier in the 17th century by one of those famous landscape painters, for example Ruysdael than that it is made with a modern camera.
An outstanding achievement.
Have a nice day. Groet Rob

Hi Stephen
wow, this is easily a city I should put on my to-visit-list.
who wouldn't want to explore gothic churches and these old town walls intact. wonderful pano type shot here, and the dark brooding skyline gives it that power and mysterious atmosphere to take it up a notch. cheers

Hi Stephen,
Reminds me of the El Greco painting of Toledo with similar dramatic skies and Spanish castles. Good sharpness and I like the wide angled crop. Tfs!

Hello Stephen,
A great view of the city, which looks amazing thanks to its location on the hill and the wall and large round towers around it. The dark sky looks amazing as well, a really dramatic view. Great work!

Ciao Stephen
purtroppo Avila non sono riuscito a vederla, anche se sapevo che è molto bella.
Fantastica foto, il cielo sembra voler schiacciare la città con le sue antiche mura.

Hi Stephen
An incredible sight this must have been to people hundreds of years ago, as it still remains so today. Building structures of this nature must have been an inspiration for the youth of the time, to push the boundaries of achievement. I like the pano format framing the view of the main subject with lots of detail, so focus and DOF are good with that stunning broody sky to top it off. Excellent capture.
Best regards

Hi Stephen,
before I heard about these famous walls I heard about St Theresa from Avila, who was a very important Christian figure and I was wondering where she comes from.
Later I started to notice photos with those thick towers.
Your photo very well demonstrates the uniqueness of this place. Fantastic point of view to include it all.
The weather was more English than Spanish, but you made a perfect use of it. As they say: if life gives you lemons, make a lemonade...
The dark clouds add a stunning dramatic touch here. On my screen it feels even a it too dark, but this screen is sometimes having funny effects.
Very impressive work!

Dear Stephen,
I wonder that nobody mentioned yet the analogy with a Game of Thrones scene. Due to the mood of this picture it could have been a place from the series.
Nice job!
