Base colonne.
La the Columbus Monument is a memorial column designed by architect Gaiet Buigas, erected in 1888 in honor of the browser.

Built on the port of Barcelona at the Universal Exhibition, with a height of sixty meters, the monument consists of a stone base and an iron pillar, surmounted by a sculpture of Rafael atches representative Explorer, right arm outstretched towards the sea

The base of the column consists of four levels of stairs decorated with six lions and topped by eight bas-reliefs in bronze, and sculptures depicting the life of Christopher Columbus.

Inside the column is an elevator that allows access to the watchtower, located beneath the statue, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the harbor and the Rambla.

Its construction has been the subject of controversy, the popular subscription open for financing has proved largely insufficient, must be compensated by the city, which was criticized. The column is now one of the monuments of the city.
