Photographer's Note

BARDENAS REALES is a semi-desert natural region, or badlands, of some 42,000 hectares in southeast Navarra, bordering on Aragon.

The soils are made up of clay, chalk and sandstone and have been eroded by water and wind creating surprising shapes, canyons, plateaus, tabular structures and isolated hills, called cabezos.

Bardenas Reales lacks urban areas, vegetation is scarce and the streams stay dry most of the year.

THIS PICTURE shows the white tower, one of the landscape's most striking features.

First picture of our summer tour of Spain. More to follow, but things are pretty hectic at the job, so you'll have to be patient, I'm afraid.
