Located at the convergence of the "Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes" and "carrer Marina" La Monumental is one of the arenas of the city of Barcelona. (in Catalan: the Plaça de Braus Monumental and Spanish: Plaza de Toros Monumental de Barcelona)
Inaugurated in 1914 under the name Sport El Monumental they were renamed in 1916. Initially, the building architect Joaquim Raspall had a style facade Noucentisme but after Ignasi Mas i Morell (with Domènec Sugranyes) was commissioned to build an outer wall completed in 1916. This facade, Mudejar and Byzantine mosaics with its blue and white, is one we see today.
To date, the Monumental is the only place in taurine activity in Barcelona. Las Arenas, the arena of "Plaça Espanya" in the neighborhood "Sants Montjuic" gave their last performance bullfighting June 9, 1977 and are currently undergoing transformation to become a shopping and leisure. As the oldest arenas in the city, "El Torin" in the district of "La Barceloneta", they were closed in 1923 and demolished in 1944.
The city of Barcelona declared itself anti-bullfighting "in 2004, which gave rise to a virulent debate in Spain, highlighting the differences between Andalusia and Castile, where the largest Ranches and autonomy of Catalonia. The culmination of this challenging phenomenon bullfighting in Catalonia took place June 17, 2007 and took the form of an event in town.
Currently a gauge of 19 582 seats, the Monumental bullring is also used for musical events and circus performances.

2. Good idea with the close-up, however:
3.This is an overwhelming structure and better taken at a distance, from accross the street, so you may include the tree and building etc'.
4. Over-blue color added.(see the branchs).
Being there I know the place and it's like a magnet.
