Photographer's Note

The Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar (Spanish: Catedral-Basнlica de Nuestra Seсora del Pilar) is a Roman Catholic church and the most notable landmark in the city of Zaragoza, Aragon.

The Basilica is reputed to be the first church dedicated to Mary in history.

Local traditions take the history of this basilica to the dawn of Christianity in Spain attributing to an apparition to Saint James the Great, the apostle who is believed by tradition to have brought Christianity to the country.

The Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar is one of the main churches in the centre of Zaragoza, the other one being the nearby La Seo de Zaragoza.

The architecture is of Baroque style, and the present building was predominantly built between 1681 and 1872.

THIS PICTURE was shot from the old (now pedestrian) bridge over the Ebro river, with a foot of the bridge visible below. A more traditional (landscape format) picture is included in the workshop.

Hallo Benny,
Het hoogtepunt van de stad volgens mij. De vele torens en enkele koepels van het monumentale bouwwerk zien er prachtig uit, in een aangenaam licht en met een aantrekkelijk voorgrond dankzij de vele waterplanten in de rivier. Mooie vertical compositie, goed gezien.

Ik herinner me dit viewpoint. Ook 's avonds zijn hier mooie foto's te nemen.
Hebben jullie ook ййn van de torens van de kathedraal beklommen ? Misschien ging het met een lift ... Ik weet het niet meer zeker.
De vele waterplanten in de Ebro zorgen voor een prachtige voorgrond.
Mooie compositie en evenwichtig beeld.

Hello Benny,
A good composition from a well chosen angle. The cathedral is magnificent but the water plants, whatever they are, are almost as important for the photo. They provide some balance and beauty in an abstract way. Furthermore the photo has an excellent clarity.

Hi Benny,
Beautiful cathedral! You have photographed it from a great angle here with well designed foreground which adds a natural touch to the scene. The towers are giant and almost resemble minarets.
I didn't have a chance to visit this part of Spain yet, I have also returned from Spain yesterday but I have yet to work through my photos.
