Photographer's Note

Curtea de Argeş и una cittа della Romania di 33.000 abitanti, ubicata nel distretto di Argeş, nella regione storica della Muntenia.
La cittа и una delle piщ antiche della Romania. Secondo la tradizione fu fondata all'inizio del XIII secolo da Negru Vodă (o Radu Negru), succedendo a Cвmpulung come capitale della Valacchia. Qui il suo nome (Curtea = Corte).
Durante il XIV secolo и stata sede di una diocesi cattolica sotto la giurisdizione del arcivescovo di Esztergom.
La cittа possiede numerose chiese medievali per il fatto di essere stata sede di autoritа religiose.
Il monumento piщ importante della cittа и il Monastero, fatto costruire da Neagoe Basarab tra il 1512 ed il 1517, al posto della vecchia chiesa metropolitana risalente al 1359. Somiglia ad una fortezza di pietra, collegata attraverso catacombe ad una torre di guardia su una collina vicina. Le sue decorazioni pittoriche interne furono completate nel 1526 ed una parte di essa и ora conservata al Museo Nazionale d'Arte della Romania di Bucarest.
La cattedrale venne interamente restaurata dall'architetto francese Lecomte de Nouy nella seconda metа del XIX secolo ed ha avuto una recente pulizia restaurativa tra il 2003 e il 2004. Una delle piщ antiche e famose leggende romene, la leggenda di Manole Meşterul, и legata alla costruzione del Monastero.
La leggenda narra di Manole maestro costruttore al quale era stato affidato il compito della costruzione della chiesa. Nonostante egli fosse uno dei piщ bravi della sua epoca quello che veniva eretto di giorno, crollava di notte. Una notte, Manole sognт che per rendere la costruzione solida e porre fine ai lavori fosse necessario sacrificare e murarne all'interno la prima donna, moglie o sorella, che il giorno dopo avesse portato per prima il pranzo al proprio marito o fratello. Manole riferм del sogno e tutti accettarono l'idea convinti che un'opera di cosм grande valore ed importanza necessitasse anche un grande sacrificio. Il giorno seguente c'era frenesia in attesa della prima donna ed ad un certo punto Manole da lontano riconobbe la moglie incinta. La moglie di Manole, fu l'unica quel giorno a portare il pranzo al proprio caro perchй gli altri si erano premurati di avvisare la propria moglie o sorella. Venne cosм murata all'interno dell'edificio ed il giorno successivo la chiesa era ancora in piedi. Negru Vodă felice per la bellezza del monastero decise che nessun altro cosм bel edificio avrebbe mai dovuto esser costruito e diede ordine ai lavoratori di togliere l’impalcatura quando Manole (mente del progetto) era ancora sul tetto. Manole non si diede per vinto e provт a salvarsi costruendo delle ali con del legname rimasto. Come per Icaro, le ali non funzionarono, precipitт poco distante e morм . La leggenda si conclude dicendo che, commossa per il gesto ed addolorata, la terra fece spuntare un filo di acqua, una lacrima e da allora nel punto dove cadde il povero Manole si trova una fontana.

Curtea de Arges is a town of 33,000 residents, located in the district of in the historical region of the Muntenia.
The town is one of the most ancient of the Romania. According to the tradition was been based on in the beginning of the XIII century from Negru (or Radu Negru), happening at Cвmpulung like capital of the Valacchia. Here its name (Curtea = Court).

Pictorial his decorations had been completed it in 1526 and a part of be is now preserved to the National Museum of art of the Break of Bucharest. The cathedral had entirely restored from the French architect Lecomte De Nouy in the second half of the XIX century and had a recent cleanliness between 2003 and 2004. An of the most ancient and well-known legends romene, the legend of Manole is bound to the construction of the Monastery. The legend church. The legend is concluded that, moved for the gesture and grieved, the land fece break a thread of water, a tear and since then in the point where died the poor Manole is found a fountain.

Hello Maurizio,
The strangely twisted towers have no doubt been designed with the best intentions but the effect is somewhat hilarious. The whole building looks like an overloaded wedding cake, a far cry from the beautiful orthodox churches to be found in Romania.
Or am I too severe ?
Anyway, you brought a well comopsed image, clear and sharp. And a very interesting view, a discovery.

Never I saw this type of towers, what a lovely and difficult architecture.
Sharpness and clarity are perfect taken.
Very soft and fine picture, light and dark give a good combination.

Very beaultiful vertical frame. The pov is really good, as you could leave both sides very parallel and thatґs sometimes difficult... The shadows in the monastery are also interesting.

Mi lascia letteralmente basita questa cattedrale dall'architettura cosм ricercata, con queste strane cupole che й come se si avvolgessero su se stesse. Frutto di un lavoro architettonico davvero eccellente, insolito e sublime. Ignoravo che la Romania fosse padrona di simili capolavori. Ti sono grata per il condividerli con noi.
E scusa se non accenno neppure alla validitа della tua foto. Io, in termini tecnicamente fotografici, sono piccina piccina. Potrei dirti: che splendido cielo, che belle ombre. Il che non sarebbe niente. Preferisco dirti: bravissimo! E basta,

Hello Maurizio,

These twisted towers are of any beauty and very original. A beautiful catch of sight on this orthodoxe church. The quality of the image enables us to see many interesting details. I like much the good exposure to the light and this shade on the frontage which adds relief. Of course contrast with this deep blue sky is superb. A very good photograph and thank you also for the instructive note.
