Photographer's Note

At right is the old wooden Asylum Church Tower in Lower Sibiu. I wasn't that much interested in it at the time but did some hunting around and found this to be the best angle that I saw, although from the observation deck of the town hall tower, it's also got some of those iconic eyes in the roofs in the image. From memory, taken through glass. In the fg is an art & Antique store.

Hello Chris,
The chimneys are almost as odd as those typical windows that always made me feel somebody was watching me. Maybe during the Ceausescu days the Securitate actually used these attics to spy on people. The bright orange roofs go well with the blue sky and the wooden church is a fine detail.

Hi Chris,
These 'eyes' are quite remarkable, and I remember seeing such here in TE maybe already 15 years ago. Those chimneys are like sculptures too, and the tower on the right is quite original. These houses deem to be in perfect condition.

Since the Middle Ages, Romania has had poor transportation in Europe and has formed cities in mostly isolated mountainous areas. Potatoes and granaries are usually stored under the roof. So it would be shaped like a watchdog's eye. Is it made for cool ventilation? Or 12th century Germany, ruled by Sachsen, to create a sense of oppression.
