Photographer's Note
The boat rabelo is narrowly on to the history of the wine of the Port. Until middle of century XX, still he was used for the transport of hooves of wine and, for times, people. Of deep flat, open mouth and with the on boards of the trincado back in, the poop is higher than the nose to facilitate the handling of espadela that it serves of I row and of helm, governed for the arrais or administrator, that go in top of a species of bridge - the become attached one. It has an only mast where it sets a great round candle. The usual dimensions of the rabelos are placed enter the 19 and 20 meters of length, with 4,5 meters of mouth. Stories of dedicated boats to the transport of people and load exist, in the river Douro, since century XIII. However, it is in 1792, that the General Company of the Agriculture of Vinhas of Alto-Douro publishes the on licenses to this boat. To the long one of its history, it has the constant care to legislate on the activity of the rabelos: it is determined, for example, load limits (extinguishing the biggest boats, with capacity of one hundred pipes) and proíbe it navigation nocturna. Rabelo obtained to cover in three days the 150 quilómetros that separated the Ruler of the Port. The sober and colorful coloring, the suits of its sailors and the largeness of the landscape, had more transformed it into one of the known typical boats in the whole world.

Nice use of the wide angle to give this a very spacious feeling. The boats on the river are at a good angle to point the way into the scene and the city beyond the river. Well done!

Thanks for visiting my gallery.
The boats in the foreground are giving multiple depth (3D effect) to your photograph. Good job.

Ol]a Goncalo,
