Arriving in Lisbon, a photo from Lisboa, South

Photographer's Note

In our 2-3 weeks of travel through Portugal, we spend 3 days in Lisbon. I had the pleasure to meet there Aires dos Santos, who was once an active TrekEarth member.
I loved Lisbon. I think there are European capitals which are very popular among tourists and their fame is bigger than what they really have to offer. I mean here for example Dublin or Amsterdam. There are some which are beautiful but again they are advertised as spectacular, I mean here Barcelona, and there are some which are not as popular but are truly spectacular, and I mean here for example Lisbon.
I was very critical about the quality of my photos in the past and this is why I didn't post many photos from Lisbon before. Now with age, I became more understanding towards some imperfections, hence I think I will be able to pick a couple of more photos from Lisbon.
Let me start with a blue hour photo taken at the Praзa da Figueira. On the top of the hill you can see the Castelo de S. Jorge.
I started my blue hour session there because I thought the view of the fortress above the lovely townhouses is really impressive. However, later I got annoyed a bit by the presence of too many people and the fact that I was not able to position the street lamps in the frame the way I wanted. Trying to shorten the exposure time to avoid too many people and ghost, I was not able to turn the lights into star shapes.
Nevertheless, I like the general mood of the scene now, and the ghosts are simply a part of the life cycle.

Hello Mariusz,
I have a daytime picture from this sqaure, almost same POV with the Sao-Gorge fort clearly shown.
Lisbon is one attractive city for photography.
Evening picture as you always favor.

Hello Mariusz, a good blue hour shot where the castle on the hill really stands out against the blue sky.
I like the golden glow that the street lights have given the foreground. Good to see people out enjoying the summer evening.

Yellow toned city lights look just great on the blue hour. Wide square with relaxing people and the castle in the background make a wonderful combination. I wish I had a shot like this from my visits to Lisbon.

Hello Mariusz,
I really like this blue hour shot that shows the busy central square in the foreground and the beautiful Castelo de Sгo Jorge towering above the red roofs.
A wonderful detail of this castle is the wall with the battlements, of which we see a diagonal line running up the hill.
Lisbon has some beautifully located viewpoints that provide exceptional photos. I also suspect that Aires will have entrusted you with some beautiful lesser-known spots.
I'm surprised you consider Lisbon less popular. I thought it's one of Europe's capitals that draws crowds in winter and summer.
I agree on Dublin. On the other hand, there are relatively few people in Belgium who choose the Irish capital as a travel destination. Perhaps as a place of arrival for a visit to the green island.
Finally, I'm surprised you think Amsterdam doesn't live up to its fame.

We get a frontage to see very monotonous, but through the night a little bit more colour , also the people enjoy of the quiet evening on the square
Also colours are soft and pleasure picture.

yes, lisbon is special.
I remember when I visited it first time (I was 6 y.o)and when we arrived in the way from the airport to the city center I said to my mother: you said this city was marvelous, but it is so ugly! and after some minutes we entered in the historic area and she asked me if lisbon was beautiful, and I answered it was.
this image bring me another memory, I guess it is the same place, we met my cousin and her family in a hotel in 1987, they were going to the airport and she asked help of my father and me, we went out of the underground, it was night, and when I lift my head I saw the ramparts of sгo Jorge Castle in gold. an amazing experience.
excellent this photo, with the people and the typical architecture.
I guess some places have more affinity with us and I guess the moment we are living in the moment can spoil an experience in a city like this.

Lep pogled i trenutak, intereantan i dobar tekst ...
Lep trg sa upaljenim lampama, fasada sa prozorima i stara arhitektura na brdu, dobro pokazano sa lepim bojama, kontrastom, perspektivom i uhvacenim trenutkom.
Lepo mesto za setnju i druzenje.

having been to Lisbon twice in the past few years, I know this city and its pov's very well. this is an easily recognizable one for me. Yet I never thought about taking it...till now.
I really enjoy reading your notes about the blue hour photoshoots, because you and I are very similar - so i 100% understand your frustration you mentioned. Over time, I have gotten used to all the people and try not to get too upset about it. I'll just go for longer exposures and ghost the heck out of them hahahaha. lovely shot, brings back memories. lovely colors. cheers

You have sold it to me!
This setting looks like the sort of place we would all like to find for an early evening drink or meal! The f/g setting is warm and ambient, whilst the b/g horizontal layers of classy houses and dominating castle make the perfect backcloth to the people-dominated f/f.

You can't be so demanding, the photo is perfect and wonderful with this beautiful night light and the indigo blue sky, people pass by and move, because the city is alive, it's more natural that way.
A great photo, with beautiful color tones, I like the lighting and excellent sharpness.
