Decorative windows among brick ruins of the Silves castle are remnant of the old Moorish palace.

Silves was once the capital of the Algarve and was completely dominated by a large castle. The castle was originally built in the 10th century, but only one tower dates back to this period. The castle was ruled by Moors until the 13th century, the footprints of the palatial houses that were once inside the castle walls you can see in my photo in WS.
