Photographer's Note
Portuguese pavement (calçada portuguesa, is a traditional-style pavement used for many pedestrian areas in Portugal. It consists of small flat pieces of various different stones, arranged to form a pattern or picture, like a mosaic. It can also be found in Olivença (a disputed territory administered by Spain) and throughout old Portuguese colonies, such as Brazil and Macau. Portuguese workers are also hired for their skill in creating these pavements in places such as Gibraltar. Being usually used in sidewalks, it is in squares and atriums that this art finds its deepest expression.

Hello Kiks ,
If you look at in my Cascais gallery , you will find almost the same picture at the same place . POV and framing are similar , but your light and colors are a lot of better . I've visted Cascais by a fine but overcast day .
Best regards

Hello KIKs,
I like very much the way you started this composition, with a well cropped and placed dark wave in the foreground. The successive waves create a delightful sight and great perspective as they expand towards the buildings. A picturesque view with attractive colours. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,
Ourania

Hello Kiks,
I've seen such pavements also in Spain but the most wonderful ones are indeed in Portugal.
Especially on pictures this can make you feel dizzy but never in reality.
Here it really looks like a wavy sea whereby the people prefer to stay on the safe edges :)
Excellent presentation.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Kik
Excelente perspectiva da calçada portuguesa numa das mais bonitas cidades portuguesas.
Excelente luz e definação permitindo ver o detalhe da pedra partida e colocada manualmente pelos calceteiros.
Nice photo! Good work!

Hallo Kiks,
Goede idee om zo'n groot deel van het plein in de compositie te zetten, want de golvende bestrating vormt een prachtig effect. Het stadje ziet er ook erg aantrekkelijk uit met mooie kleuren.

Hi Kiks
Playing tricks with the eye & mind !! The pattern of the pavement is mesmerizing and really becomes beautiful at the bottom of the shot when the real detail of the tiles is revealed. Great low angle and use of a wide lens for this one, but the excitement here is the wavy illusion is given of a surface as if is not flat and the boost in contrast makes quite a difference. This is creative thought out photography with immense depth. Just amazing shot, Congrats.
Kind regards

Hello Kik,
I have seen this pavement photographed before, but that does not mean this is any the less impressive! The wonderful patterning creates a very 3D effect and also, a compelling guide the characteristic Portuguese buildings.
I wonder if people get seasick walking over the tiles!!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Kiks,
Style of Portuguese styling is immediately recognizable. Those wave patterns look really good on this angle.
Beautiful square, I had a pleasure to visit last year. I also visited that Irish pub, which has also Irish beer in addition to rather bland Portuguese beer.

Hello Kiks.
A vertical composition pride, giving prominence to the paving, which is like waves similar to the waves, the two buildings background give much charm to this beautiful place.
Excellent done. I love it.
Have a happy start to the week.
Best wishes.
Luis.

Hello, Kik!
The painting on the blocks forming those waves is great, giving a very nice effect to the photo! I like this framing including a lot of the pavement with the houses in the background! Very good light and colors! Beautiful job!

Dag Kik
This is the first time I can see concrete 'real waves' in a grand plaza pavement; such an hypnotizing design that I would'nt recommend to drunk pedestrians who are more likely to lose their balance or be unable to hold on by themselves!!
Very interesting piece of unconventionality, indeed. Groeten. Robert
