Making plans for Saturday, a photo from Algarve, South

Photographer's Note

Some beachgoers like “to see and to be seen”. If, after seeing my recent photos from Algarve, you are worried that all beaches in Algarve are desolated with no sunbeds and umbrellas to rent and no bars around, please don’t worry. As I said before, everybody can find in Algarve something they like.

My two previous photos presented the westernmost beach of Algarve. Now I make a jump to the eastern end of the region, just before the border with Spain, to Monte Gordo, the easternmost coastal resort town of Algarve.
I don’t actually have good photos from this town, but I wanted to mark it on my TrekEarth map as well, showing off that I have travelled the whole length of the southern coast of Portugal. I selected here a beach scene with probably the most characteristic, pyramid-shaped hotel behind (Hotel Yellow Monte Gordo).

Monte Gordo offers a very particular experience of Algarve. If you want a giant beach with perfect sand, crowds and crowds of people, you don’t care whether at the back of the beach there are orange cliffs or concrete hotels, then Monte Gordo is for you. Also for those people who don’t drive a car but rely on the public transportation, Monte Gordo is for them. I experienced a cultural shock when I drove to Monte Gordo from the western side of the region. I looked through my archives and wanted to find a photo which would show the density of crowds, but I don’t have a good example. I will add in the workshop one more beach view with the focus on people.

I am not sure whether you will be able to read the cover of the magazine which the man is reading. I spotted two large words there: sбbado and sexo. I suppose that tells us what his plans for the Saturday are.

The difference between the WS and the main picture notably seen in the type of ceowd, Mariusz.
In the main post they have one plane in mind, absorrbing most of the calm beach ambiance and sunrays...
The youngsters in the Ws most probably looking for a date in the evening...
Must say, hard choices on the two, vividly presented as always.

This is an entirely different beach than the ones you showed earlier. You chose a good vertical composition that includes the people enjoying the sunny weather, the parasols and the large holiday resort in the background. Well done.

Until now I thought I had been to the easternmost town of Algarve since I once arrived there from Spain. I think that was in Vila Real de Santo Antуnio, but when I re-read your note I see that you mean the easternmost resort town.
Both pictures are excellently clear and sharp. You main photo is well composed with the beachgoers in the foreground, the large umbrellas in the middle and the high-rise buildings in the back.
But what you're showing seems more like a nightmare to me. Hel may be a place in Poland. The real hell is apparently in the Algarve.
No wonder this man is looking for an outlet for his Saturday activity. Whether his partner feels the same way is another matter. For now, she keeps the distance.
Of course I know that such holiday places exist. But a photo of me will not appear soon under 'Monte Gordo'.
Of course, let them have their fun.
Doesn't the place name mean 'Fat Mountain' in Portuguese? In Spanish anyway.
How many days did it take you to recover from that cultural shock? The rest of the holiday period?
Hopefully no permanent damage was done.

Lep pogled i trenutak, interesantan i dobar tekst ...
Lepa plaza s aposetiocima i arhitektura u pozadini, dobro pokazano sa lepim bojama, kontratsom, perspektivom i uhvacenim trenutkom.

you were very close of spain.
nice images showing the people enjoying the beach. I prefer lonely and empty beaches. I had a terrible experience with my hair in an beach filled with a crowd in algarve, some oil was floating in the water and I spent many weeks to remove it from my hair.
