Fatamorgana, a photo from Algarve, South

Photographer's Note

Faro is the biggest city in Algarve region of Portugal and if you visit Portugal for its beaches then you are very likely to land in the Faro airport. I stayed there for one night prior to my departure from Portugal. This photo presents one of my favourite spots in the old town of Faro. I thought the palm trees are complementing the narrow streets so well.
Interestingly when I tried to find the location of this photo in Google Maps, I couldn’t. Eventually I did but I realized something strange: the palm trees were removed from this place! So what you see here, this charming spot with the lovely ambiance, it does not exist anymore!

Pity those palm trees were removed from this beautiful spot, exactly what a photographer would yield to find: Shadows over the paved road that matches the real trees in shape.

Hello Mariusz,
I found the historic heart of Faro very nice and this photo shows a very nice mix of the charming houses and the large palm trees. The large shadows in the square are also very appealing and it was such a nice and sunny day.

With the Portuguese art of tiling, you could be forgiven this was a tasteful tile print rather than a shadow...or is it? Great picture = well seen + well captured.

This looks amazing!
The spreading shadows of the palm trees give a pattern to the floor that would normally be created by cobbles or tiles! This is art that would be constantly changing!
Well observed and artistically photographed.
How sad that the trees have been removed, at a time when the world is crying out for trees to be planted!

Hello Mariusz, what a pity that the palm trees have been removed, maybe they had grown too big.
In this delightful picture it is the shadows of the palm fronds that are such a strong feature of this scene.

You have apparently visited other places in the Algarve than I have.
After Lagos I have not been to Faro either.
Truly beautiful with the different palm trees and especially with the shadow of the largest one in the foreground.

this specie of palm trees are being attacked by a terrible Asian bug that kills the palm tree fast. I saw many of them destroyed in greece. probably these ones were lost in this attack. a palm like this is very old and many have many decades of life and their lost is a terrible fact to the urban landscape in countries like portugal. beautiful image.

Podobna technika, zupelnie inny ale rownie fajny efekt. Caly kadr wypelniony palmami lub ich cieniem, tworzacymi ciekawe ksztalty i wzory. A wszystko zlane wspanialym portugalskim slonecznym swiatlem.
