Photographer's Note

The Church of Santa Maria in bidos was the setting for the wedding of King Afonso V to his cousin, Princess Isabella of Coimbra, on 15 August 1441, when they were both still children aged 9 and 10, respectively.

This is the towns first church and is erected upon the remnants of a Visigothic temple made into a mosque. The building of the church began in the XII century, yet has been restored in several occasions and today most of the building is renaissance style.

The church was not open during my short visit to bidos.
