Photographer's Note
As soon as I realized that taking blue hour photos may be my only chance to have some photographic fun on the cloudy and rainy Madeira, I tried to look for the best points of view around Funchal.
The first viewpoint which internet named as having the best view of Funchal was Pico do Barcelos. It was just few minutes by car from my hotel, so it was an obvious choice. I stopped there shortly during the day, but the dull rainy sky made the photos quite terrible. The viewpoint was also quite distant from the city. From that distance there was nothing characteristic at all to catch the attention, nothing really to use in the foreground neither as it was all paved. I had rented car for two days only and since both were rainy, I decided to return to Pico do Barcelos for the blue hour. It was exactly as I expected, of course at the blue hour the 360 view was spectacular and quite romantic, but it was hard to capture in an interesting way. Nevertheless, I wanted to share with you a fragment of this stunning view.

Pozdrawiam serdecznie

Thousands of light-bulbs all over the city-scape, Mariusz.
Late afternoon blue hour, last light enable this, seems as almost more darkness would fall any minute. A marvelousl sight.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Yet more proof that almost any kind of weather is a good time to take photos. A stunning blue hour from a superb lookout. Your prior research paid off handsomely here. Tfs!

Hello Mariusz,
I'm sure you've heard the proverb, 'Where's there's a will, there's a way', which you have employed effectively during your holiday.
This is a lovely diagonal composition, with the illuminated city contrasting well against the blue sea and sky.
I have never seen a blue hour, before, where the glow of the artificially lit buildings, so resembled molten lava!
What do you think?
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

it was a marvelous view with the golden lights against the blues. sharpness is perfect and we can enjoy the urban details. yes, it would be perfect with a nice element in FG. I was checking information. Funchal has the same size of the largest town of my micro region.
take care

Hello Mariusz,
I think you have to return once to Madeira in a month with more chance of sunny weather.
Bad weather is of course a risk we all have in many places.
In this photo I like the contrast between the blue sky & sea and the orange illumination in so many places. Also the alternation of those orange lights with the white/grey colour of the houses.
I had forgotten how vast Funchal really was.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Mariusz,
With a little imagination, this could be lava flowing into the sea. Lovely postcard!
