From one hotel to another, a photo from Madeira, Islands

Photographer's Note

I don’t think it is necessary to explain the importance of the tourism on this forum. Obviously, most TrekEarth members prefer to walk around and experience places rather than stay at the hotel pool for a week or two. We are curious about the world, and we want to learn about the world through photography. However, I must admit that at various stages of my life I have tasted a variety of travel approaches and I don’t judge other people’s priorities. Regardless of whether you prefer to drink alcohol by the pool or walk among slums photographing damaged houses and poor people, the tourism transfers money to the people who need it and has the potential to teach the visitors not only about the beauty of the world but also that we all have so much in common. I have heard that 80% of people on Madeira rely on the tourism. They want tourists to come again, and we want to go there. EU understands that and the travel restrictions are slowly being lifted in the block. UK is quite behind. Its airlines and airports so far suffered the most. We cannot wait for all Covid cases to disappear. The new Covid variants will come every now and then. Covid is here to stay like the flu. We must return to normal life.

This is a view from a terrace of the hotel in which I stayed on Madeira. Most of the buildings you see there are hotels as well. Many of them were empty when we visited earlier this month. If the travel companies, airlines etc collapse, the travel may become, like in the past, a domain of very rich people only.

Hello Mariusz,
I don't completely agree with your opinion in the note, but I respect your point of view.
The beauty of this picture is not so much based on what I see, but on the good composition and especially the multitude of colours and the colour contrasts obtained.
From the terrace of your hotel you enjoyed a great view of the ocean with a beautiful garden in the foreground.
If I remember correctly, in my room in Funchal I faced a blank wall :)

I totally agree with your notes here, who are we to judge others of their travel choices. I guess i'm one of the ones who enjoys walking through the slums :) you show us here another wonderful blue hour display of colors, the arrangement is stunning. it's wild and crazy! so much going on here, it captures my interest immediately. well done as its so crisp and clear even in the bg. cheers

Czesc Mariusz!

Wonderful warm cold colour contrasts with excellent sharpness and good artificial lighting that compliments the sunset. The high pov is good. I was in a luxury hotel in Luxor for a week with a huge swimming pool, but never used it as I was too busy out sightseeing everyday. Because of the slump in tourism, accommodation in Egypt was exceptionally cheap, as was the Abu Simbel tour. So if I can get a 5 star hotel room for the price of a 2 star hotel, why not? Tfs!

a nice nocturne shot with the golden light and the blue sky in contrast. fortunately my town economy is based in agriculture and this sector wasn't damaged and the prices became higher. in my state only cities in seashore and iguassu falls got big damages because the tourism in troubles because covid.
