Photographer's Note
One week ago I went with my husband to Plock for the second dose of the Covid vaccine. It is crazy to go 120 km from Warsaw but we treated it as an excursion and we were quite glad. Płock is a nice city, it was kind of the capital of Poland in 12 Century. Strange, there is almost no photo on TE.
As you have probably noticed, I am rather inactive on TE. I look at the photos, sometimes I write critiques, but I rarely show any photos. It is so frustrating when for hours nothing happens. But from time to time, something "inspires" me. It has happened just now. I saw Gert's nice series with the red wooden houses and suddenly, it came to my mind that we have also in Warsaw an area with wooden houses, and you will be probably surprised but in the centre of Warsaw - near the Polish parliament, well-known parks and the most important embassies.
I went there to take some photos.
Amidst the concrete jungle that Warsaw can so often appear to be, finding a community of wooden, Finnish houses close to the city centre come as a surprise to many, both locals and visitors. But that is exactly what Open Jazdów is.
Just a stone’s throw away from the Sejm (Poland’s parliament), the wooden houses were part of the reparations Finland was forced to provide to the former USSR following World War II. The Jazdów estate initially consisted of 90 houses, which were built for the employees of the Warsaw Reconstruction Office (Biuro Odbudowy Stolicy, BOS), whose task was to prepare large-scale post-war reconstruction projects. Over the years the settlement has become smaller, with the land on which they sit is worth a great deal, and subsequently leased by foreign governments for use as embassies, or repurposed. However, while it has shrunk, part of the Jazdów estate remains, with a total of 27 houses, of which only seven are inhabited by locals, the remaining 20 being occupied by various NGO’s and organisations with one goal in mind, conservative. (from: https://emerging-europe.com/after-hours/exploring-warsaws-wooden-finnish-cottages/).

There is even one red house (see WS)

Hi Malgo,
The trees are framing well the houses. The point of view is showing the details of the wooden houses. There is a good contrast between the colors of the picture. Have a nice day.

PS:my second dose for the COVID vaccine is planned for June 30,2021.

Ciao Malgo,it is very positive that a part of this area has been preserved in spite of the pressure of the builders, considering the strategic value of the post in the center of the city. I like these things very much, it is almost an open-air museum, even if the houses are less than 80 years old. 3 really excellent beautiful photos, the red one is magnificent. Regarding vaccines, don't worry, we have a large hospital 500 meters away but the closest place to vaccinate is 25 km away, tomorrow evening I can finally book too !! Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Malgo,
Thanks for the special link. These are nice houses, but they look like any ordinary Nordic suburban area from the decades after the war. But I appreciate that at least one is red, even if it's probably not painted with Falu rödfärg. The main photo is a pleasant view with a person standing by a window and a generally cosy atmosphere among the hedges.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Malgo, sometimes it needs a picture on TE to remind us of some that we ourselves have taken, why not?
Three lovely pictures of wooden houses.
I especially like the picture of the red house.
Your notes about the area are very interesting.
120 km seems like a very long way to get your 2nd vaccination!
A good idea to treat it as an excursion.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Malgo,
Your notes are very interesting, relating information that is completely new to me!
Your photograph certainly does not immediately make us think of a city centre!
I actually like your w/s better because of the closer details and lack of emphasis on the blown out sky. They also produce an excellent sense of mystery!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)
It does seem a long way to have to travel for your vaccine, especially as we were constantly encouraged to stay close to home, so as not to spread infections! How well is the vaccination programme progressing in Poland?
I feel so sad about the conditions in India!

Hello MALgo,
Ha!ha! This is what we need ....a little bit of inspiration ! I'm glad to see you 'from time to time' better than 'nothing at all' :-)
I'm surprised to see these Finnish wooden houses in a pretty quiet surroundings , so close to the city centre.
I do like the WS1 and the activities you mentioned. It must be full of fun and merry. Esp in the summer , the green environments...it's like a secluded house in the forest as well as the WS2.
Thanks for sharing this 'close-knit' community.

It's crazy to drive 120 km for the second dose. But at least, I'm sure we'll see some photos of Plock :-)
I'm still waiting for the covid jab :-(

Hello Malgo,
A neighborhood not in the city center, away from the regular tourists routes, most probably known only to local people.
Looks as a charming area to take an easy stride.
Have a nice weekend,

Hi Malgo
Missed this one. Nice to add to Gert's theme of of old houses in cities and the workshop fits the red part of the theme too. Looks more like the Masurian Lakes than Warsaw. I wonder what poor little Finland did to incur the wrath of the USSR? Tfs!

Piekne miejsce, nie tylko ze wzgledu na drewniana architekture, ale rowniez otaczajaca ja zielen. Troche Skandynawii w srodku Polski. Ten czerwony domek jest szczegolnie uroczy.
Pozdrawiam serdecznie

houses painted in red are rare in brazil and much more rare are the ones in black, because they would be very hot during most of the years. nice view of these twin timber houses surrounded by green areas,

Hi Malgo,
It is difficult to imagine this in the center of Warsaw. It looks like you are in the middle of a forest or a remote condominium. The houses are simple but are well maintained and the red one is very attractive. By the way, does the zoo I saw in a movie still exist?
Best wishes

Hello Malgo.
Seeing this beautiful image, you would never have guessed that it would have been obtained in the center of Warsaw, the houses are charming and all that trees that surround them, gives us the feeling of being in the middle of nature.
Wonderful colors, soft tones, excellent sharpness and splendid light.
Very well done. I like very much.
Have a nice day.
Very best regards, my friend.
Luis.

Hi Malgo
first of all...you said to me you almost left TE? is that true? are you thinking of leaving the site? You'd be missed dearly here. But i also understand because the # of people posting here is very low now. this is a great addition, especially because its so close to your home (a few hours), and its so unexpected. I really like the red house. interesting story and history here. cheers

Hello Malgo,
It must be quiet living in this part of your capital. It's like living out of town.
Interesting to read that Płock has once been the capital of Poland.
I admit I had never heard of Płock before you mentioned it the first time and I'm quite sure that most people in Belgium don't know this city at all.
How is it that so many other cities have become much more famous? In 2008 I was in Poland and even during that travel preparation I never came across the name Płock.
I note that I actually showed here very few photos of that journey.
Indeed, very few photos are uploaded on TE. You don't have to wait hours for the next one. It is sufficient that you check once or twice a week what is new.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Malgo,
This is a nice find in the middle of the big city. These houses look like there were transplanted from a small village. They are a part of history, and hopefully they don;t all disappear to make way for some modern highrise. I hope you're doing well. Take care!
