Photographer's Note

On their arrival in Auschwitz most Jews were sent by the SS for immediate death in the gas chambers. However, they were often forced to await their turn in this clump of trees if the gas chambers were full at the time.

This photograph has an appropriately sombre tone, and though in colour, is to all intents and purposes monochrome. The glimpse of the perimeter fence and guard tower is suitably fear-inducing. An effective piece of work.

L'aspect lugubre de ces troncs d'arbres au premier plan donne une atmosphиre tout а fait adaptйe а ce lieu qui rappelle de bien sombres moments. Une photo trиs intйressante.
