Photographer's Note

We were driving towards Rjokan when Janet spotted an elk grazing at the edge of a forest. I had been told that elks are very shy and hard to photograph so I stopped the car in the shadow of a nearby farm building and quietly got out.

With the lens of the FZ20 preset to full x12 optical zoom and the building shielding me from view, I moved nearer to where we'd seen the elk. Then I stepped into the elk's view and quickly snapped the picture just as she raised her head. She then ran off into the forest.

Perhaps not an exciting photo, but a satisfying one.
