The Norwegian coastline is heavily indented with many, many fjords, which sometimes present an obstacle for road traffic. It would cost the annual gross domestic product of a medium sized country and then some, to construct bridges across each and every fjord, so vehicular and passenger ferries are used to supplement what bridges there are. This system even confuses Norwegians without GSP, as one fjord looks pretty much like another. Taken between Alesund and Geiranger Fjord at the Eidsdal Crossing.

Hello Chris,
It is said that there are relatively more dialects in Norwegian than in most languages because of the mountains and fjords that made travelling inside the country difficult. These differences seem to remain in spite of ferries and national media. This is a nice view that somehow makes me remember island hopping in Greece.

Hello Chris, I get the impression that the ferry is quite large as we see the buildings on the shore, it must dwarf them.

Who knows how many such ferry crossings there are in Norway! Your angle is original, and timing is right showing the raised bow as the ferry gets ready for landing.

a nice explanatory note and image showing the daily life in the area. when I was a boy our big rivers hadn't any bridge and ferries were very usual, I remember me crossing ivaн river in the ferry..
