RbN3 Museum Cranes

NightHunting with Rinie once again last Friday because we didnt get to shoot the very photogenic Harbour Museum on the Leuvehaven last Saturday :-)

Displayed here is one of the 6 old harbour cranes on display on the terrain of the Harbour Museum at the Leuvehaven. At night three of the biggest specimens are lighted blue, yellow and red . A spectacular site. The yellow crane is a Glijbalans kraan it was built in 1939 by Kampnagel Aktiengesellschaft . Its of the portal type two freight trains could pass side by side underneath it. The super structure of a Figee crane from 1959 is in view in the background. Behind it is the brightly lit up top floor of the post-modern Fortis bank on the Blaak.

Until the containerization of sea transport these type of cranes dominated the Rotterdam city harbour scape. Most of the harbours are now outside the city of Rotterdam. In my Harbour 356 P-Base folder, there are some pictures, taken during the demolition of a city harbour and its cranes. They are here.

In Rinies posting theres wider view of the lighted three cranes with old rhineboats in the foreground.

PCS2 tech: slightly cropped ; contrast, levels, curves & saturation (differentially) adjusted; USM-ed; added a frame and saved for the web.
