Aardenburg is a city in the Dutch province of Zeeland. Aardenburg is located in the western part of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen and belongs to the municipality of Sluis. Aardenburg formed an independent municipality until 1995, including the centers of Eede, Sint Kruis and the hamlet Draaibrug.
Aardenburg was already inhabited in the Middle Stone Age, but only became a really large settlement in Roman times, when after 174 a castellum was built for the coastal surveillance of the borders of the Roman Empire. Aardenburg was still on a river, which gave a connection with the sea. That Aardenburg at that time would have been called 'Rodanum' is an attractive but not yet proven hypothesis.
The fort was abandoned around 225; the proof for this is that when a civilian temple was founded within the military walls. Between 260 and 274 in the time of the Gallic empire Aardenburg was again used as a fortress. It was evacuated because the natural environment changed. An attack by Germanic tribes may also have played a role.

Hello John,
This was two years ago, but soon we will see these colours of early autumn again. The trees make this photo very pleasant, but we don't see much of the buildings. That is fully made up for by the nice colours and the beautiful light. The photo is as sharp as ever.

Ik wilde al zeggen dat de herfst hier al vergevorderd is, maar ik zie dat de foto twee jaar geleden wat later in het najaar genomen was. De geel/groene bomen in het heldere zonlicht zijn prachtig.

Hallo John,
Hier zien we dus het stadhuis van Aardenburg en vermits dergelijke overheidsgebouwen meestal centraal gelegen zijn, krijg ik de idee dat het leven in Aardenburg zonder al te veel stress verloopt.
Rond het stadhuis werd duidelijk veel ruimte en groen voorzien.
Het licht op het gebladerte is schitterend. Het lijkt een prachtige herfstdag.
Mooi met de afwisseling van licht en schaduw op het plein.
Vanuit je gekozen standpunt zijn er geen takken die het zicht op het gebouw belemmeren.
