Tholen, pittoresque little town, situated on an island with the same name and Province of Zeeland.
As many Europeans we got a lot of snow last month and the roofs of the monuments in the heart of Tholen were wonderfully decorated with a trick lay of snow, ready to celebrate Christmas...

Tholen, middeleeuwse sfeer: Het stadje Tholen is in de XIIIe eeuw ontstaan. Wie door Tholen dwaalt, krijgt een goede indruk hoe de burgers van Tholen vroeger geleefd hebben. Een van de mooiste plekjes van Tholen is de Venkelstraat. Maar ook de slanke walkorenmolen De Hoop die op de stadswal gebouwd is en het historische stadhuis zijn zeker de moeite waard om te bekijken. Het gebied binnen de vesten is sinds 1991 "Beschermd Stadsgezicht" en telt vele monumenten.

Tholen, atmosphиre mйdiйvalevale: La petite ville de Tholen fut fondйe au XIIIиme siиcle. Qui se promиne dans Tholen comprend bien comment les citoyens d'autrefois y vйcurent. Un des plus beaux endroits de Tholen est la Venkelstraat (Rue des Fenouils). Mais aussi l'йtroit moulin du rempart (Walkorenmolen) "De Hoop" (l'Espoir), bati sur les remparts de la ville, et la mairie historique du XVиme siиcle valent d'etre vus. La partie situйe а l'intйrieur des remparts possиde l'appellation "Site Historique Protйgй" depuis 1991.

Tholen, medieval in character: The village of Tholen was established in the XIIIth century. As you wander around, you can get a good idea of how its people once lived. Don't miss the Venkelstraat as it is one of the loveliest streets. The slender flourmill "De Hoop" which was built on the city wall and the historic XVth century Town Hall are well worth your visit too. The area inside the veste is a "Protected Cityscape" since 1991.

aaaahhh WHY this beautiful photo is SO small??
but in any case, I like very much this winter snowy view ! it tells us what real winter holidays should look like :)

Hello Viviane,

Beautiful picture, I think the snow leaves very beautiful and charming places.

In my city in Brazil have snow only in the high parts where there are no houses, I would love to one day to see the snow in the middle of our city, the last time this happened here dates back to 1950.

it is a beautiful little picture. Pity that so little.
The decoration with the snow means a lot here, it turns the image almost to monochrome.
The architecture is stylish, elegant, and varied.

I'm sorry I missed your delightful picture of Tholen, but glad I managed to find it before the end of January at least! I did get your lovely card a few days ago - many thanks! I hope your festive season was a pleasant one, and that 2018 will bring only good things for you and your family. I'm certainly going to be in Europe at some stage, and my main plan this year is to visit relatives in the Czech Republic and friends in Spain; I've been promising to do that for a few years now. After that I haven't decided, but it would be nice to meet up if possible.
