Rotterdam Airport take off
This pic was shot a minute after taking off at Rotterdam Airport (formerly called ‘Zestienhoven’) for Faro (Portugal), in a ‘Transavia’ Boeing 737-700 with one of the two CFMI CFM56-7B engines in prominent view.
On the ground you can see the airport. It’s a regional one and its internal logistics and position in the Rotterdam road and public transport network are great. When we step out of the plane and on the tarmac on our way home, we allways arrive there only some 20 minutes later. Whilst in Schiphol Amsterdam, Holland's main airport, that 20 minutes only takes you from the gate to the bagage claim area. If you're lucky, that is ;-)
Behind the airport you can see the Rotterdam agglomeration. The high rises on the left flag the city centre.
Although flying is a bit boring and not very comfortable - the take off is always a great and thrilling moment - the thundering engines flagging that it's no mean feat to defy gravity, the acceleration, the steep angle of attack, the symbolism of the gestalt of leaving and going to places.......still lov' it .
In the WS is a picture of Rotterdam harbour, taken a few minutes later.
I’m a very busy hence my low posting speed.
This is picture #2 in this new triptych which is about ‘evocation in black and white’
Nothing remarkable on the tech side apart from the fact that I focussed manually to prevent the AF system of the little S90 from locking on the window.

Hi Bert, i love this moment of take off! And then when the plane is safe on the ground again. So I like this photo from the airport, I think at once about my flights. I do not think about flights as boring and not comfortable, as this means new adventure or coming back home after it. Last year I had not so much flights, only 9 and a bit more than 20 000 km in the air. It was less then in previous 2 years.
Fantastic view of the Rotterdam harbour, but I cannot recognize the place we went by ship.
have a nice day

Dag Bert,
Goed foto werk, bedankt.

Hello Bert,
I´m a huge fan of such pictures.I like your idea to put stress mainly on the engine,as most of such photos we see present only the wing.I´m also a little bit surprised how great it works in B&W.Excellently composed and framed scene.Quality like sharpness, depth or ligh management are also superb.
Have a nice evening

Hello Bert,
this part of the taking off airplane is placed good in the frame as we can see through the window, equivalent parts of the land and the moody sky.
The clarity of the foreground as the light are excellent with the darker land to contrast perfect with it.
Have a good evening,Danos

Hi Bert
now THATS a cool airplane photo!
great idea to switch it to monochrome too - that worked out very well.
we can see the sprinkling of buildings far off into the bg, but for me, the plane with all its rivets and sections are the main highlight!
really cool
cheers

Hello Bert,
I like this because it feels like I am actually sitting in the plane feeling like I normally do when I am about to take off, very exciting. B&W choise adds a lot too.
Have a nice weekend,
Regards,
Maria

Hi Bert,
You got one of the worst seats for taking photos from the aircraft, those seats at the wings. But you made the best of the situation, "if you can't beat them join them". Your inclusion of the wing in you composition is really great. A photo of the airport and the city without the wing as a lead in and giving depth would not have been been the same. The B & W is also great. TFS and have a nice weekend!
Kind regards,
Ulf
