BRESKENS: THE NETHERLANDS
One weeks ago, my bike trip came along this wonderful marina of Breskens.
The ferry that you can see in the picture is the:
Princess Máxima has a service speed of 14.5 knots and a maximum speed of 16.5 knots, and sails across the Scheldt from Vlissingen to Breskens
Start time
The history of this ferry service dates back to 1574, when the freeman of Breskens appointed a ferry captain to sail his jetty barge from Breskens or Breskenszand to Vlissingen. In 1755 a ferry service was added that was served from Vlissingen. From 1795 the ferry service from Breskens ceased, while the one from Vlissingen probably continued to exist. Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, however, belonged to France from 1795, while the province of Zeeland belonged to the Batavian Republic and the Kingdom of Holland, respectively, which was only annexed by France in 1806.
After 1814, both ferry services were taken up again, but formally closed in 1866, as they had long been replaced by a new service.
in 1826 it was decided to install a steamboat ferry. It was initially a private steamboat, but the service was subsidized by the province of Zeeland. In 1842 the boat was purchased by the province, but it was still operated by a private person. The ferry service ran from Vlissingen to Breskens and from there to Terneuzen. They arrived in Breskens at the Veerhaven, which was then close to the centre of the village.
I hope you like it

Hello John,
It's a nice ferry, rather small but probably there is no need for a larger one. And maybe these waters could not handle a large ferry. There is a very attractive light, and in the foreground the reeds, the wooden poles and the many seagulls are nice details.
Best regards,
Gert

Hallo John,

Hi John,
the ferry makes the very important addition to this very flat landscape. It is quite interesting to see this view but without the ferry it would be not easy to make it as good as it is.
Great depth of the field with some details in the foreground and the beach on the other side well visible too.
Very well done,
M

Bonjour, cher ami John,

Hi John,
Nice view with a pleasant sea landscape and a good subject with ferry, just situated in the center of your photo, nice sunlight, for the presentation maybe a bit more contrast and colors saturations, for my screen ...

Hello John,
A fine continuation from your previous shot.
I thought, at first, that this was hovercraft, especially from its size and the short distance that it travels.
Your photograph displays your usual sense of fine composition with the f/g anchored, the ferry strongly placed and the horizontal layers following the rules.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hallo John, this ferry boat navigating on the Scheldt river is a less popular means of transport than cars and trains. It carries passengers between different cities of Zeeland. Nice view of this delta area. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hello John,
Good catch of the ferry sailing past. The fg grass acts as a frame as well as providing depth and layering. Good sharpness too and the high shutter speed has avoided motion blur. Tfs!

Dag John,

Vele groeten, Paul

Hi John
Great scenery of the descendant of a ferry boat with long history! Quite a breath taking on a bright day with moving boat perfectly placed strikingly stands out in the setting. There's a lovely touch of vivid colours, sense of wide space and lots of detail to absorb. Excellent take and appreciate you useful notes.
Best regards
