ÔÎÒÎÃÐÀÔÈÈ

Maastricht.
di solito si dice che l'eta' rende saggi. la letteratura, il cinema, i giornali pero' raccontano spesso storie di persone che con l'eta' sembrano rifiutare quella "saggezza" che gli anni dovrebbero dare. uomini in eta' da pensione che invece di occuparsi dei nipotini decidono di sposare una trentenne e diventare di nuovo papa', signore mature che piantano tutto e tutti e se ne vanno in cerca di se stesse, coppie che scoprono "il gusto della vita" in eta' avanzata e spendono e spandono i risparmi di anni di lavoro... cos'e' che spinge una persona ad invertire la rotta, il percorso segnato, a rifiutare il ruolo che gli e' stato assegnato, a costo di apparire ridicolo, folle, esaltato, fuori di se'?
e' il senso del tempo che passa, che sfugge di mano, che obbliga a fare scelte sempre evitate? che spinge a saltare nel buio, dimenticando responsabilita', legami dati per scontati, certezze ritenute incrollabili..?
e quelli che li criticano - e' il buon senso che li spinge o l'invidia, il desiderio di fare lo stesso - e la consapevolezza di non poterlo fare?

Maastricht.
they say that wisdom comes with age. and yet you know what they say ' "there's no fool like an old fool"... how many books, or movies, or articles in the paper tell stories of people who seem to confirm this adage? older men who marry (much) younger women and have kids the same age of their grandchildren? women of a certain age who quit everything to go find their inner self in far away places? elderly couples who discover that life is now and squander a lifetime's savings in the pursuit of happiness?
what makes a person decide that it's time to reverse, to turn back, to leave the beaten track, the path society and conventions have laid out for them, even if that makes them look ridiculous, foolish, out of their minds? is it the feeling that the clock is ticking, that time is passing and life has not begun yet, that there are choices that cannot be postponed any longer..? what makes them leave behind responsibilities, relationships, certainties and beliefs that they used to hold on to and that now suddenly no longer count..?
and those who criticize them - is it only common sense that guides them, or an inner desire to do the same and the painful awareness of the impossibility of doing so..?
