Photographer's Note
Elephant
The elephant statue, one of the most famous in the park, could be a monument to the memory of Horace who died in Lepanto in 1571 fighting against the Turkish fleet, but the interpretation is not entirely convincing. More likely, the reference to Hannibal's enterprise during the Second Punic War, the majestic elephant carries a large tower on its back and holds a Roman legionary in its trunk, as if to crush it.

Ciao Silvio,
Beautiful elephant sculpture, holding the warrior in an unusual pose, maybe saving a wounded soldier.
Fairly managed with the shaded POV.
Arrivederci,

Hello Silvio,
A person being held like this by an elephant wouldn't have long to live. So whoever he was supposed to be we are looking at a dying man. It's another interesting sculpture, but the light was slightly more difficult in this spot.
Best regards,
Gert

Ciao Silvio.
I am leaning more towards Hannibal and Carthage too, as the Punic Wars had a more direct impact on Italy whereas conflicts in Turkey were minor skirmishes rather than all out open warfare. Hannibal may have won a battle , but ultimately lost the war due to Roman superiority. Tfs!

Hi Silvio,
La clôture cadre bien la sculpture. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails de la sculpture de l'éléphant. La lumière donne de belles teintes aux couleurs de l'image. Bonne journée.

Ciao Caro Silvio,
I think the second interpretation is the more likely! Hannibal came over the mountains, with a cavalcade of elephants, to attack the Romans, and that looks like a Roman soldier, being held by the elephant!
It is a large and difficult sculpture, clearly photographed.
Thank you for bringing it to our attention,
Bev :-)

Hello Silvio, an impressive sculpture, and still in remarkably good condition.
I think that the second theory about Hannibal is probably the correct one.
Difficult light, you managed very well.
An interesting place to visit.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Silvio, Curious elephant sculpture. Now it reminds me of an interesting bizarre Buddha Park near Vientiane in Laos.

Hi Silvio
I keep wondering why I never heard of this great park when I've been in Rome.
The theory behind this one is good. if very improbable. Another good one.
cheers

Ciao Silvio,
Amazing sculpture which tells a story as well. Interesting combination of the elephant and the soldier. The soldier is caught in a nice pose which was certainly difficult to sculpt.
Very well seen and captured,

Hello Silvio.
Magnificent sculpture of this elephant, which supports a large basket on its back, we understand allusive to carry warriors, while also fighting against land, as we see this Roman captured with his trunk.
Very good management of brightness, sharpness and color.
Good work, my friend. I'm lovin 'it.
Have a great day.
Greetings.

Hello Silvio,
Nice and detailed depiction of this elephant with the Roman soldier. I wonder if he's going to crush the soldier or lift him up to his back. I am betting on the Hannibal story.
Regards,
MT
