Photographer's Note

Arriving on the Isle of Capri, this is Capri harbour, Marina Grande. We had sailed from Amalfi, via Positano.

As you can see Capri is a mountainous island, composed of a single block of limestone.
A busy place; lots of hustle and bustle.

Two variations on this view in the w/s.

Hello Jean,
It's a beautiful island, and the view of the small port and the pier looks very inviting. I can imagine the excitement of getting here as seeing the fine buildings and the steep hills – or mountains? The WS show us similarly nice views, all photos in wonderful light and colours. You ask an interesting question. I think if you live in Denmark or the Netherlands, for instance, anything above 50 meters will constitute a mountain, whereas for the Swiss even 1000 meters might just be a hill.

Hello Jean,
Three excellent and very inviting pictures of the beautiful island.
The buildings sparkle in the sunlight. The sea has a very nice colour and we find a nice wooded area between the small town and the mountains.
I went there by boat from Sorrento but I think we're all arriving at the same port.
I think people speak of mountains as soon as it goes steeply uphill somewhere. The height itself is less important in my opinion.
I always had trouble imagining myself at a height when it was a high plateau and the landscape that was high up actually looked more like a plain.

A wonderful and sunny view, what a beautiful place, the row of house looks so charming in front of the green slopes and the rocky cliffs and peaks. The busy port with several larger and smaller vessels makes a good foreground.

My near neighbour today. And both of us are in Italy, albeit on opposite sides of the country! Love the light in this shot: crystal-clear whites that sing, and the water of the harbour reflecting the blue of the sky. Nice.

I know that Capri is overcrowded (you can see crowds in this photo) and over touristed but you photo shows it to be very beautiful. Good WS photos as well.

Resplendent in the sun, the city looks magnificent under the shelter of the rocky mountain, ideal constructions, the small port gives it a special charm, and a place with fame and that in view of the beautiful photo it deserves.
