Photographer's Note
The old centre of Naples shows it historic importance in the large buildings that were once the homes of Neapolitan aristocracy. Palazzo Carafa di Maddaloni, Palazzo Marigliano, Palazzo Filomarino - a few examples. Waling along these streets, it is difficult not to peek beyond the mammoth entrances and into the beautiful courtyards of these buildings, which are mostly from the 1500s.
I not only peeked, but enter. Looking around, wondering about the Venus from Milo on such a place. About the decay.
Then the lady walked into the frame of the huge entrance, stopped, and started to speak to somebody.
The paralell between her and the statue caught my eyes, so I took rapidly my "gun" and shot...
Beeing afraid that she'd notice me, but more that she'd change the position, "shot" very quickly, not taking care about the settings.
So here's the original without any changes, here's where I need some
HELP
from you.
I'm not good in PP-work, know only some elementary things to do. What can be done? what would you do? And the most important: how?
-correct the tilt with perspectiv correction, or just turn to the left?
-delete the wire with the deleting brush?
-curves, sharpness, contrast?
I like it, and somehow I don't. How would you crop?
A lot of questions...
I'll be glad about every feedback, WS
Thanks

Hi Janos,
Old parts of the cities are amazing and astonishing. They're always vigorius and alive in spite of the extreme difficulties.
This is a very good image expressing the reality. Very good colors and PoV you have here. Not that much but I can feel the architecture. The statue in the middle looks so impressing.
There is a little softness and the image needs to rotate CCW but not that bodering. Also a little cropping from right and top would help to bring out the main subject.
Very good job and thanks for sharing...
(I'm not expert on PP but I'll try one for you but today I've already used my quota)

What I like the most here is the accumulation of shapes and lines, making your eyes going from one spot to another, discovering a new detail almost immediately something to match it in another area of the composition, wondering about the global mess before repeating this process again and again...
That's why I can't find any purpose in erasing the oblique wire in the bottom half of the picture. It brings a new perception to what would be a quite straightforward architectural shot without it; could this be a true manifestation of originality, following the thread I just read in the forum?
While most lecturers on what photography should be and how photographers should behave insist on "killing the clutter", going the opposite way is quite refreshing! *o)
Please check my workshop for other "improvements"...
PS By the way, the statue is not a replica of the Venus de Milo, but inspired by another representation of Venus, as painted by Sandro Botticelli (circa 1485) coming out of the sea on a giant scallop shell... ;-)

napoli
I find a great interest in this "arrière cour" from Napoli showing the balconies and wires, just as natural as it could be. A funny attitude from the woma calling someone upstairs like in old Italian films, the scooter ... This is a very good picture. From a technical point of view, I agree with the workshops.
Well done for this true shot.
Jean Michel
