Church of the Madonna della Selva Mattutina (Selvetta) - Montefalco (PG)

The church of Santa Maria della Selva Mattutina, commonly called the Church of the Madonna della Selvetta, rises in the territory of the Municipality of Montefalco, near the ancient Via Tuderte, on the border with the municipalities of Castel Ritaldi and Giano dell'Umbria.
The name of the place (Selva - Selvetta) derives from the wood that once vegetated in the area, a millenary and sacred oak grove.
The sacred building, built towards the end of the 12th and the beginning of the 13th century, belonged to the Plebanate of Santa Maria di Lucciano (Plebatu Lucciani), the Matrice church that stood near Villa Fabbri in the territory of Giano dell'Umbria, then the Parish of S. Pancrazio of Colle del Marchese and now that of Santa Marina di Castel Ritaldi.

Ciao Caro Silvio,

This church certainly shows its antiquity, which is very much part of its charm.
I like its situation, in your composition, with trees protecting it, in both the f/g and the b/g.
I wonder if it was more closely situated with other buildings, when it was originally built.
The exposure is lovely with sharp details and good, natural colours.

Hello Silvio,

The rough track leading from the bottom left to the right between the road framed by 2 trees adds deep lead in lines. The potted plants at the side add a nice splash of yellow green. Tfs!
