Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
One of the things that I wanted to do most, on my trip to Italy, was to see the Colosseum.
Please look at the scene here on Beta, to see it even larger and clearer.
It is one of the those features that you have known about for most of your life, have seen it in still photographs and on films but there is nothing quite like experiencing it!
My daughter visited it earlier in the year and talked about her experience of touching the stones and I know exactly what she meant. I touched the stones gently and wondered about the people, from history, who might have done the same!
WE had a wonderful guide, who talked to us about the Colosseum, why it was created, who was responsible and the political reasons for its existence. I'm sure you know most of this so I will just let you look at my photograph and hope that you experience some of the emotions that I felt.
The day was glorious in every respect!
As a workshop, I will add another photograph which I really like but thought this, showing many details of the Colosseum was a better main post.
Enjoy your day, Bev :-)

Hello Beverley,
The Colosseum is pretty impressive indeed and when walking there I found it hard to imagine all the history that took place there, thinking that a Roman emperor may have walked in exactly the same place! It's a beautiful photo of the monument on a clear and sunny day. Really well done!

Hello Bev,
Your well chosen point of view offers a great perspective over the Colosseum enabling us to properly appreciate the construction. The throng of visitors animate the scene and give scale to the composition. Well exposed with excellent rendering of the colours and textural detail.

Hello Bev,
This photo strikes me as a case where inclusion of people really tells us of the impressive dimensions of what we are seeing. The persons don't mean so much for vividness or colours, but they tell us of the enormous size of the Colosseum. It seems to be one of those buildings that are larger inside than outside. ;-) Both photos have excellent clarity and colours, and although I like the WS too, this is the most informative. Are you obliged to use a guide, or do most people do that anyway, just to get better information? I am quite sure I walked on my own here in 1969.
Kind regards,
Gert

The crowed appearing on the scene just remind me of a moview when people were cheering at the Colosseum competitions back in times, Beverley.
Immaculate and superbly lit photo, the shaded arches made an exquisite contrast to the picture.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Hello Beverley,
My first trip to Italy just had to include a visit to the Colosseum. This brings back good memories of the small museum on the top floor with an image of drunken Romans arguing drinking, eating and cheering the main event, much like a contemporary football match. Might load it as a workshop if I can find it. Good sharpness and framing. Tfs!

Hello Bev,
Funny, Friday, I saw this picture (at least almost the same) at Lars.
He was unexpected in Rome last week because he had to intervene in the guidance of a group of his students and now in he is in London, where he has just waved to your queen and our king. 😊
Have a nice day. Groet Rob

Bonjour Bev,
Un passage obligatoire lors d'une visite de la capitale italienne. Tu as su profiter d'une très belle journée et d'une faible affluence pour nous montrer le plus beau côté de l'enceinte. Comme quoi, c'est la lumière qui fait la photo.
Amicalement

Hello Beverley, this is a fabulous shot from inside the Colosseum. The size of the people helps us to appreciate the scale of the building.
It seems a little like Doctor Who's Tardis! Looking much larger on the inside than from the outside!
Excellent viewpoint.
Regards Jean.

Hi Beverley,
Aqui está uma imagem com muita história para contar. Eu posso imaginar a sua experiência diante desta obra colossal e ter a oportunidade de tocar nestas pedras que foram tristes testemunhas dos cristãos mortos aqui e dos gladiadores também.
Foto espetacular!
Parabéns

Hi Bev
its always a great scene anytime we can view the famous Colosseum right! Excellent note too, we can feel the excitement and sense of childlike wonder you had being here for the first time :) That into itself is worthy of 2 points haha.
I'm happy for you :) Its a wonderful photo, with that wrap around type of look, and its great to have the blue light coming through the open spaces. lots of people here too. Sweet shot, glad you got to feel and touch the stones!
cheers

Hello Bev, Fantastic view of the interior of Colosseum. I was there a very long time ago, in 1977. I remember that there were MANY cats inside. I was again in Rome later, a few years ago, but I saw only exterior. Fascinating place. fabulous presentation.
Kind regards Malgo

I am not a usual tourist. while in rome I had the ticket paid but I had enough time to see everything and I didn't want to enter in the colosseum, I preferred spent my time in other places.
nice view of this slice of the internal part and its details.
take care

Hello Beverley,
to see these impressive ruins, people small as ants, and then to imagine that it was used as a kind of quarry in the past! I often wonder, what makes the difference, when does the moment come in which disrespect of antiquities gives way to appreciation? What makes the difference between the thought "it's old, no need to keep it, no use for it anymore", and the enthusiasm people feel nowadays looking at ancient ruins?
That's what impressed me most during my visit in Rome: the juxtaposition of ruins and modern life. I have seen many other ancient ruins, for example Pompej, Agrigent or the towns in Turkey, but none of them can compare to Rome.
Kind regards,
Elvira

You really did well in choosing to make a close-up on the details inside part of the Colosseum.
It's not so usual but very interesting.
I like the way the people look like ants even on the close-up !
The name "Colosseum" comes from the colossal statue that used to stand outside the monument, but it goes well with the gigantism of the building too !
Lovely, brown colour against the pure, blue sky./
Kindest regards.
Marie-Louise.
