Photographer's Note

I'm more than sure that everyone knows this view well from the Piazzetta San Marco on the lagoon with fantastic architecture of San Giorgio Maggiore Island in the background. Taking this image was one of my biggest dreams during my stay in Venice so, I hope you like it:)

we are neighbours today on the newly posted photo page :), along with Serghei too!

I'd name this photo the 'dancing gondolas!' haha

I really like the contrast of the yellow color against the blues. and of course the movement of the boats make it seem to come alive.

la foto и caratterizzata dalla particolaritа delle gondole trasfigurate in forme eteree a causa del movimento che il moto ondoso dell'acqua ha impresso nel corso della tua lunga posa. che ha permesso di riprendere una Venezia nitidissima con la chiesa di S. Maria della Salute in bella evidenza in un Canal Grande fantastico.
E gli stessi pali di ormeggio delle gondole arricchiscono la composizione con la loro presenza, ma le gondole con le loro sagome sfumate, se da una parte appaiono come una novitа, dall'altra non mi convincono eccessivamente pwerchи la nostra mente и abituata a vederle in fotografia cristallizzate nei loro movimenti e si fa fatica a vederle altrimenti.
A mio parere la foto avrebbe guadagnato in chiarezza senza la presenza delle gondole scegliendo un punto di ripresa a qualche metro di distanza perchи lo sfondo и stupendo e le ripresa eccellente.
Comunque complimenti in ogni caso per l'ottimo lavoro.

ah, gosia, you broke the rule of "no tripods allowed" :)
of course such a photo would be impossible handheld, magnificent result. i wish san marco would also be shaking like the gondolas, then, this would be a crazy photo indeed (you can try to get such effects by moving the lens slightly up & down while making the photo)

Hi Gosia,
The illuminations of these famous buildings are very well captured. The picture is well composed with the church at the third and all colours are excellent. A very beautiful blue sky. The mooring poles for the gondolas provide a fine pattern. The movements in the foreground add a slight sense of mystery.

Howdy Siudzi,

The dreamy gondolas rocked by the water in the foreground and the distant night lights of Plazzetta San Marco combine into a fine panorama and not the typical Venetian postcard.

It reminds me that I first paid attention to Venice in the James Bond flick "From Russia With Love"; the end scene with Sean Connery romancing the female while lying down in a gondola.

It is a lovely shot in the blue hours.You have done a great job using a tripod and allowing the extra exposure to seep in to present us this grand shot.The foreground is a bit blurred but then the background is perfectly sharp.Nice lights and brightness too.Very well done.TFS.

Przyznam szczerze,ze sam probowalbym dobraz czas ekspozycji tak aby uchwycic gondole w bezruchu.Ale teraz widzac efekt jiki ty uzyskalas zmienilem zdanie.Gdybys zrobila tak jak ja napisalem mielibysmy piekne,ale jednak bardzo statyczne zdjecie.Natomiast te poruszone lodzie wprowadzaja tutaj dynamiczny i troche zwariowany(w pozytywnym tego slowa znaczeniu)efekt.
Super!

This is absolutely the best capture from Venice I've ever seen here at TE !
Long exposure time was a perfect decision as it created this moving effect of the gondolas and hence great graphism.

Good morning Gosia,
Charming blue-hour in Venezia. The 8 sec.exp. gave good view on far side of the bay, and "brought" some "ghosts" around the Gondolas, in the famous location.
I think this combination made a unique contrast on two parts of the image. Yet, it also made the illuminated parts marvelousely enhanced and shine.

Ahh this is stunning, the shot that every traveller wants (and rarely gets). Yours is one of the best I've seen, an exquisite Blue Hour, with amazing depth of field and a wonderful sense of movement thanks to the 8 second exposure. I love the blur of the gondolas, which add to the already palpable magic.

This is absolutely lovely: the light, the slow shutter speed which blurs the gondolas and the passing ships and the blue hour choice all work excellently. You're right though about it being an oft-photographed location. Here is my effort!

Czesc Gosia,
wspaniala praca wykonana w perfekcyjnym momencie blue hour. Niebo jest dokladnie takie jakie powinno byc -nie dalo sie tego zrobic lepiej! Bardzo fajna kompozycja z palami nieruchomymi i lodziami kolyszacymi sie na falach na pierwszym planie, w oddali ta urocza wysepka z piekna architektura.
Mialem przyjemnosc robic blue hour zdjecia w tym miejscu ale niestety w czasach przed-cyfrowkowych i negatywy nie sa zbyt dobre, ani odbitki. Znak ze musze tam kiedys wrocic.
Doskonala jakosc, gratulacje!
