Photographer's Note

Area occupied by this viewpoint, once stood a fort, part of the defense system of the coast. Known as the Fort of Cavalry, was composed of a tower and a large building complex, occupying an area of 30 x 60 meters and the tower, located at the west end, consisted of three floors above ground. In the fort housed a detachment of cavalry to patrol the coast of the main purpose to prevent smuggling and ensure the health safety of landings. After the unification of Italy, the building was sold to the City Council and was dismantled in 1872.
In the last decade of the nineteenth century here we have the construction of an amusement park, the Eden, which remained in operation until the beginning of the next century, in this structure since 1896, it held some of the first Italian film shows .
The transformation of open space in a large square on the sea came only from 1925 to a design engineer in collaboration with Henry Louis Salvais Shepherd. The work was completed quickly and later, in 1935, there Ghino Venturi built the gazebo for music, a round temple with a dome supported by circular columns, subsequently destroyed by bombing in World War II. The Terrace was therefore entitled, Costanzo Ciano, Leghorn and a leading figure of the Fascist Party, and father of Galeazzo.
After the war was greatly expanded by using the rubble to the north of the city center was destroyed by the bombing and was therefore dedicated to the composer Pietro Mascagni, Livorno.

Wonderful image, thanks for sharing. Its lmost surreal, and like a scene from Alice in Wonderland to my eyes. The fact that the bike looks a little too small adds to this, and the tiles and amazing sky are excellent. Really nicely done!

Hello Silvio,

When I saw this picture in the gallery, Alice in Wonderland came to my mind. The colours, the perspective - even an illusion of movement - created by the checkered tiles, make the scene appear surreal. Very interesting work!

Between the chequered floor and the blue sky are the sharp and detailed architecture. The colours are clear and vivid. The sharpness enhances the effect of the composition. The man on the bycycle - mostly in black is simply amazing.
Beautiful photograph and a fine border frame.

That's a WOW photojob, Silvio.
Checkered piazza, superb mild light, clear view on details, DOF and contrast were all best collected.
The passing bike rider added fine dynamic scale, and silhouette against the majestic sky's.

Attractive shot by the contrast between the biker and the lighted houses in the background. You fired too late, ideally, the biker should have been at left to have more space in front of him and the pavement pattern and perspective would have lead the eye on him.

molto bella ed intrigante questa composizione che gioca meravigliosamente con l' architettura, la prospettiva e la luce. I diversi elementi hanno i propri ritmi e le proprie prospettive. La loro coesistenza e interazione nel quadro rende l' immagine davvero affascinante. I contrasti fra luce ed ombra e fra colori sono superbi. Il ciclista sembra interrompere brevemente l' interazione di tutti questi elementi aggiungendo anche movimento. Hai gestito tutti i parametri della situazione superbamente. Complimenti e grazie!

Excellent picture, built like an Italian painting of the 17th century, where painters discovered perspective. The bicycle rider is the unique visible element of modernity: a kind of living counterpart in the middle of this very geometric picture. Amazing.
